THIRD YEAR, FIRST SEMESTER

INTERNAL MEDICINE 3A (9 UNITS)

A. CARDIOLOGY
PROFESSOR

TIPS

DR. VICALDO

Attend to his lectures. He explains everything so

one would understand easily the main mechanism
of the disease. The downside, he has very lowvolume bedroom voice. So better stay in front.
unfortunately, hindi niya natatapos yung lectures
for the whole term.

DR. ANG

if he says to memorize that part of the lecture,

memorize it. it will surely be asked in the exam.
Chill lang siya magturo meaning no quizzes.
only reads the ppt but gives examples from his
experience.
he also provides the ppt.

DR. LUCAS

As much as possible, listen to his lecture or ask for

recordings because he gives tips on what to study
for his exam.
-never gave quizzes
-Roll call every meeting, pampabawas lang ng time

DR. JUMANGIT

- ask the class that she giver her lecture, sinasabi at

tinuruo niya mismo kung ano yung ilalabas niya.
(Mahilig sya sa drawing bilang isa syang Cardio
Echo Specialist :> )

B. PULMONOLOGY
PROFESSOR

TIPS

DR. EVANGELISTA

Handouts are okay. Make sure you know what part

is assigned on him and the other professors. He is
generous in giving handouts.
-Information overload, not helpful
checks the attendance sometimes
-Never gave quizzes

DR. BAYOT

mahirap siya magpaexam usually may favorite part

siya sa lecture so dapat attend his lecture.
usually sends his ppt after the lecture to the coor

does not give quizzes

DR. ESGUERRA

-Take note of what he says, it comes out of the

exams
-memorize his handouts!!!

C. GASTROENTEROLOGY
PROFESSOR

TIPS

DR. CHAM

Study only the topic assigned to her. ;)

DR. CABALLERO

His handouts are based on Harrisons and may be

more than enough. He usually gives tips for his part
on the exam.
-He doesnt care whether youre listening or not
-He doesnt care about the attendance
-No quizzes, so far

DR. VITUG

- attend his lectures, nagchecheck sya lagi ng

attendance
-nagbibigay sya ng notes niya na doon mismo
manggagaling ang questions

DR. UY

- Dr. Uy usually gives a one- to two-page

handout, and this handout is sufficient to pass
his topic on the major exam.

D. HEMATOLOGY
PROFESSOR

TIPS

DR. TUY

He changes some of his handouts every semester

so make sure you have the latest copy. His
questions are from the lecture and handout.
-Surprise quizzes but I think not recorded
-Recitation, but not graded
-If you study his lectures, youll have good score in
hema

DR. CUA

Nakakaantok minsan ang boses plus after lunch

schedule namin sa kanya. But, it pays to listen to
her kasi lumalabas sinasabi niya kahit hindi siya
gumawa ng exam.

E.

IMMUNOLOGY

PROFESSOR

TIPS

DR. BAES

Reporting
- She tries to make the concept easier lalo na pag
halo-halo at magkakamukha yung disease, ibibigay
niya yung clue kung pano ma-identify yung
probable diagnosis.
- attend her lectures, super simplified sya magturo
at magbigay ng additional info. if she says read the
book, read it!

DR. CABASAN

Her questions are difficult. Read Harrisons and

note the diseases symptoms and treatment.
-If you have a good report, she might give
additional credit. Just pretend that youre taking her
subject seriously
-No quizzes

DR. GABALDONES

Reporting
stresses important points
(hardest part for me is immuno bec they seldom tell
the students who would make the certain questions
and you really have to read the book. good thing is
almost all topics are short. read after the lecture to
catch up and para di matambakan sa major exam)

F.
COMMUNICABLE DISEASES (DR. SALANDANAN) ---> namnamin ang dokumento! :D :D
attend class because attendance matters for him :) tapos the usual: magpulot ng basura at itapon sa
basurahan :)) wag umattend ng class ng hindi nakapagbasa ng DOKUMENTO. at kung hindi nakapgbasa,
WAG MAGPANGGAP. Remember, Com-Dis has the greatest number of items in the exams in IM!
TOPIC

ASSIGNED READING/TIPS

MERS-COV

-Just explore the internet, exam is easy just read

extra peculiar internet topic for discussion reserve
(this applies to all topic)-

INFECTION CONTROL

practices na under dun. (wala nang universal
precaution)

SEPSIS

-Read guidelines, tactful discussion, easy exam

(applies to all topic)

RATIONAL ANTIBIOTIC USE

TB

Focus on Chapters 2 and 3 (Case Finding and Case

Holding) on the latest TB guidelines in reporting.

He gets most of his questions on those chapters.

-No need to read the last chapters

DENGUE

-Everything is in the guideline

INFLUENZA

-Harrisons

EBOLA

HEPATITIS

Be familiar with Phil. and World Epidemiology. Iba

-Serologic profile is important, both in exam &
discussion

LEPTOSPIROSIS

- Harrisons (konti lang to)

TYPHOID

- Harrisons!!

HIV-AIDS

-Harrison has a very lengthy discussion about this.

Just let the reporters do their work & listen to the
discussion especially the topic that will be
emphasized by Doc Salandanan(that is, if you do
not have enough time). But of course you can
always search the internet - CDC, WHO, etc

SURGERY 3A (6 UNITS) - surgery 3A was completely overhauled last semester, so, wala halos samplex
questions, puro lahat bago. hopefully, ulitin sa inyo.

also help.

HEAD AND NECK (DR. VALENCIA)

his questions

landmarks; try to differentiate strangulated from
incarcerated hernia. favorite nia din ung
classification system.

MESENTERY (DR. PECHO)

nagsasama siya ng questions from traumatology ng

pang 2nd year. try to identify the key features of
every disease. saka kung paano ma-differentiate
ang location ng mass whether nasa skin, mesentery
or intraabdominal

ESOPHAGUS (DR. GUINTO)

STOMACH (DR. SANTOS)

SAMPLEX!

SMALL INTESTINE (DR. LICUP)

-Book lover. Reading the book will be very

helpful, small intestine will be a topic in pedia, IM
& surgery so reading it is not a waste of time.

LARGE INTESTINE (DR. OCAMPO)

take note on what he emphasizes in the lecture kasi

dun lang siya kumukuha ng questions :) sobrang
haba kasi ng ppt handout niya.

APPENDIX (DR. MENDOZA)

handouts are enough :)

PEDIATRICS 3A (5 UNITS)
TOPIC (PROFESSOR)

TIPS

CARDIO (DR. LATOSA)

-Handouts & samplex (most of the pedia topics go

that way)

CARDIO (DR. VICTOR)

-The easiest shifting ever, in our time

-If it is an easy topic, its your chance, so always
grab the opportunity, always aim for a high score
(its very important to save yourself from removals)

handouts, recordings and samplex

LRTI (DR. ONG)

-Handouts & an open mind

-Recitation during lecture, but not graded
-No quiz during lecture

answer (2-5% of his exam is recall, 90-95%

application)

GIT (DR. DE VEGA)

-Recitation during the entire lecture period. Read in

advance!

GIT (DR. URTULA)

-General knowledge will help

- hmmm try to read the book, 95% of his questions
wala sa MRA handout laging nasa libro.

CNS (DR. AGRAVA)

-If you do not have enough time during major

examination, it is very helpful to read this topic last
-Tables are very important for shiftings

NEPHRO (DR. JAVATE)

-handouts & smaplex, both for major & shiftings

NEPHRO (DR. MATHEUS)

-lecture based!

BACTE (DR. MALLORCA)

-samplex? more on medications.

BACTE (DR. BAEZ)

-read & understand the handouts

NEONAT (DR. MARASIGAN)

- shifting is essay-type. check the samplexes. you

need to know the physiology and pathophysiology
of every system in the neonate.

NEONAT (DR. BECINA)

- time is very important in identifying the case

given.

NEONAT (DR. MASANGKAY)

-lecture based.

ALLERGO (DR. LIM)

OBSTETRICS (3 UNITS)
PROFESSOR

TIPS

DR. SOLIS

Listen to her lecture. It really helps.

-DO not eat/drink, or go to CR during her class

DR. BERNARDINO

Her quizzes are usually identification. What she

emphasizes in the lecture usually come out in her
quiz.

DR. PALAYPAYON

What she says will go out of her quiz, will always

go out. as long as you dont piss her off. The quiz is

always identification.
DR. MARIAS

DR. AHYONG-REYES

DR. MARTIN & DR. SAN JOSE

DR. CAPULONG

DR. GAMBOA & DR. CARNERO

Unfortunately, makakatulog ka lang. Its like a

reading class. Ang hirap pa magpa-quiz. she gets
bits of information from the book that are not in the
handouts and gives it in the quiz as well.

book based! as in copy paste!

though nagbabasa lang sila sa lecture, sa libro ang
exam LOL (book based naman ang handouts pero
maraming iniskip na details for you to understand,
and doon sila kumukuha)

quizzes are given immediately after the lecture so

listen, easy questions because they emphasize what
is important. HANDOUTS will suffice but to excel
or to have better understanding read the book. the
book is reader friendly you can easily understand
what it is trying to say :)

handouts, samplex for reference on how she asks

questions.

ENVT. HEALTH (DR. TAN)

samplex and handouts

OPHTHALMOLOGY (3 UNITS)
- handouts are enough to pass this subject but it is better to attend the lectures to understand. An exception is
for Dr.Alejo's topics. He takes questions from the book (Newell). Take time to read and rationalize samplexes
because most professors repeat their questions in two major exams (this means 1 major exam is not samplex
and 2 major exams are samplex. Kaya niyo naman iyan :))
