Music is considered among the most ancient of the fine arts. Though
this is an art sound, it is related only to those sounds that are termed as "Surs"
(notes), The whole edifice of music stands upon seven Surs (notes). Music
has been sometimes called the voice of animals, birds and sometimes the
voice of gods. But, in fact it is the creative and artistic expression of humans.
Music can give expression to those human feelings which cannot be expressed
through human languages.
This research paper will cover the 3000 years of history of rise and
decline of the classical and folk music, alongwith the technical changes that
took place through various periods of time, covering different forms of music.
It is particularly an attempt to trace the historical background, invention,
identity and popularity of "Dhurpad" and Khayal Gaikey.
