Instructional Inputs:

Read aloud I Was So Mad by Mercer Mayer

Discuss with the children these questions:
What do you think this book is going to be about?
What is different about the first letter of the sentence?
What do you know about the mark at the end of the sentence?
What do these numbers on the bottom of the page mean? (They
number the pages.)
What does the author do?
What does the illustrator do?
Where do you see the letter Tt on this page?
Do you hear the sound /t/ on these pages?
How does Little Critter feel in this story?
Why is he so mad?
Why do you think the adults in this story dont want Little
Critter to do the things he wants to do like juggle and decorate
the house?
Is there a way he could have done things differently so the
adults would have allowed him to do them? (example: juggle
with something less breakable).
Do you think Little Critter is still mad at the end of the story
when he goes to play with his friends?
What makes Little Critter feel better?
Have you ever felt mad? Why did you feel mad? What made
you feel better?
The pictures in this book help to tell the story. What can we
learn from looking at the pictures? The expression on
Little Critters face shows us how hes feeling. His face tells us
hes mad. What does your mad face look like?

Modeling:

Questions to ask:
Where do you see the letter t in the classroom?
What sound does the letter t make?
Who has the letter t in their name?
Reintroduce Alphafriend: Reggie Rooster
Who remembers who our new alphafriend is? Call on students until they
say Tiggy Tiger.
Our new alphafriend is Tiggy Tiger!
Show his picture.
This is TTTiggy TTTiger. Say it with me.
What sound does Tiggy Tiger make?
/t/
Whenever you see Tiggy Tiger, remember to think of the /t/
sound.
The letter t stands for the sound /t/, as in tiger. When you see a
t, remember Tiggy Tiger. That will help you remember the
sound /t/.
Write tiger on the board, underlining the t.
What is the first letter in the word tiger? Tiger starts with /t/, so
t is the first letter I write for tiger.

Guided Practice:

During Centers

Closure:

Today we learned more about Tiggy Tiger and the sound he makes. We
found words in our book that start with /t/. We also listened to the Tiggy
Tiger song for words that start with /t/. We are now going to go to our
centers.
Say: If you are wearing the color _____, you may go sit at your table.

Differentiation:

For those that are showing respect and following instructions, give
Cougar Paws. When Harlin does well and is working quietly, have him
add a sticker to his chart. For those that are not showing respect and are
not following instructions repeatedly, have them pull a ticket or go sit in
their seat.

Independent Practice/Application:

Students will practice independently with the teacher as a guide during

centers.
Students will also practice independently as they complete the weekly
posttest during centers.

Transitions:

Reflections:

To transition from large group to centers, say to children: Boys and girls
- we will now go to our centers with zero level talking. When you get to
your seat, listen for my instructions. I will be whispering very quietly.
Give two minute warning before each center needs to switch. At one
minute to switching, have children clean up their materials.
To transition from center to center, say to children: Boys and girls - it is
time to switch centers. Collect your things and move with level 1 talking
to the next center. Listen for my instructions when you get to your seat. I
will be whispering very quietly.
