Lesson Planning Document

Instructional Objectives:
MA.7.1.1 Numeric Relationships: Students will demonstrate, represent, and show relationships among rational numbers
within the base-ten number system.
MA 7.1.2.b Add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers (e.g., positive and negative fractions, decimals, and integers)
MA 7.1.2.d Use multiple strategies to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers

Set: Mr. Renfro will close the door and Prompt students to be in their seats and have their warmups out. Today Mr. Chrastil will tell students, The
expectation is that everyone will have their warmup out and be working quietly. You all have three minutes to complete the
problems. Once you complete the problems you may compare answers with your neighbor next to you.
Objective: The goal of todays lesson is; We will understand how to set up multiplication and division of fractions in a story problem.
Purpose: Students must understand; how to set up multiplication and division of fractions in a story problem.
for the NESA.
Input and Modeling:
1. Students will be in their assigned row tables with folders in-front containing their warm ups.

2. On the LCD television in front of class there will be a warm up displayed.

3. Teachers will prompt students to get out warm ups and turn off voices to begin warm up as class starts.
4. Teachers will then cycle through class checking for understanding and ensuring students are working on warm up.

Guided Practice:

5. Mr. Chrastil will then begin the warm up, cycling through students checking for understanding. Mr. Chrastil will be
looking for students to express their understanding of warm up problems while working through the problems on a
I-pad (airplayed to the LCD Television)with class participation.
6. While Mr. Chrastil is doing this Mr. Renfro and Mrs. Osborn are cycling through students checking for understanding.
7. As warm up is completed Mr. Renfro will go over his perception of the problems and instruct students of key concepts
he wishes to tell students. Then Mr. Renfro will tell students to put away warm ups and check for compliance.
8. Teachers will cycle through ensuring the students are complying and prompting those who need. Upon return of warm
ups to folders while Mrs. Osborn and Mr. Chrastil cycle through to drop off pink worksheet(multiplication and division
of fraction worksheet). Modified worksheets will be given to Jacobbe and Trenton.
9. Mr. Renfro will model to use a sign to distinguish multiply or divide and students will show understanding by
demonstrating sign
(DIVIDE: http://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/d/divide.htm.
Divide: At first the left hand is stationary. The right hand comes down one or two inches and contacts the left hand.
Then both hands move down and to the sides.
MULTIPLY: http://www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/d/divide.htm
Multiply: The sign for "worse" uses "K" hand shapes. If you use a single movement and no facial expression.

10.

Teachers will be

modeling signs and be using

proximity control, checking for understanding, and aiding students. Meanwhile Renfro instructs via the ipad, going through questions
1-4.
11. Students will then have the option of working ahead or continuing on with the class out loud. Teachers will cycle to
check for understanding. By the end of the period the intent is that the students will have all of the word problems set
up to complete at home.
