Q.Gangaram Sait bought three DVD players for Rs.1000 each. He wanted to make a profit of 20%
by selling these and accordingly marked the selling price. He was forced to sell the first two DVD
players with a discount of 5% for cash. Now he wanted to see that he makes over- all profit of
20% by selling of these three DVD players. Hence for ensuring this by what percentage over the
cost price should he sell the third DVD player?
a) 32% b) 28% c) 42% d) 48%
Answer : a) 32%
Solution :
Cost price of the DVD players = Rs.1000 each
Selling price marked by him to achieve 20% profit = 120/100 x 1000 = Rs. 1200 each
The first two DVD players he sold at a discount of 5% on S.P.
Without discount the SP of Two DVD players should had been = Rs. 1200 x 2 = Rs.2400
But since he discounts 5% from SP, he sold them at 2400 x 95/100 = Rs.2280
Since he wanted to make overall gain of 20% on the sale of the three DVD players he should sell
them at 3000 x 120/100 = Rs.3600
Since he has already sold 2 DVD players for Rs. 2280, he must sell the third DVD player
for 3600 2280 = Rs.1320
Profit Percentage on Third DVD Player = SP CP / CP X 100% = 1320 1000 / 1000 X 100% =
32%

Q .Consider three brothers Ram, Ravi and Rahul. Consider Ram to be taller than
Ravi by 10% and Rahul is taller than Ravi by 30%. Now, by how much percentage
Rahul is taller than Ram.
Answer 2
Let heights of Ram, Ravi and Rahul be p,q and r respectively. Then as per the
conditions given in the question :
p = 110/100r and q = 130/100r
Ratios of heights of q and r will be (130/100r)/(110/100r) = 13/11.
Hence Rahul will be 13/11% taller than that of Ram.

John swims in a river at an effective speed

The velocity of the stream against John is
Kilometers/hr. Now, how much his effective
when
he
swims
in
the
direction

of 8 Kilometers/hr.
measured to be 2
speed will increase
of
the
stream?

Soln:
Since John opposes the stream speed to achieve an effective
speed of 8 Km/hr, original physical speed of John would be 8 + 2
=
10
Kilometers/hr.
In downstream, if he swims with his original speed his effective
speed
will
become
10
+
2
=
12
Kilometers/hr.
This is 4 Kilometers/hr more than that of the initial effective
speed
8
Kilometers/hr.
Hence his speed would increase by 4/8 % = 50%.

66) The average age of a group of 12 students is 20years. If 4

total age of 16 std=21*16
total age of 4 std=(21*16)-20*12=96
avg of 4 std =(96)/4=24

are needed. How many helpers are required?
1helper takes 1 hr. -> 2 large OR 35 small
1helper takes 3 hr. -> 6 large OR 105 small
3 helper takes 3 hr. to make 18 large cakes..
6 helper takes 3 hr. to make 105*6=630 small cakes..

so remaining cakes -> 2 large and 70 small..

clearly 1 worker can do the job in 1 hr (2 large) and 2 hr (70 small)so total helpers= (3+6+1)=10

= 2*22/7*7/2
= 22 cms is the distance moved.
90) An elephant fell into a well of depth 20mts. Everyday it climbs 4 mts but at the end
falls by 2 mts. Find the number of days it would take for the elephant to get out of the
well ?

Soln:
Since it climbs 4 mts and falls by 2 mts everyday, effectively it
climbs 2 mts everyday. In 8 days it climbs 16mts.
Then on 9th day it climbs by 4 mts and can get out without having
to fall back. Hence it takes 9 days for the elephant to be safe.

95) A 20 litre solution conatins oil and kerosene in the ratio

3:5,replace 4 litres of mixture with 4 litres of kerosene what will
be the ratio of oil and kerosene?
Soln:
When 4 liters are taken out of 20ml, amount of oil in remaining 16
lt = 3/8 * 16 = 6
Hence the remaining 10 litres would be kerosene
Now additional 4 litres of kerosene is added to the solution
So total quantity of kerosene = 14 litres
Ratio of oil:kerosene = 6/14 = 3/7.

How to find the sum of integers between 300 and 600

inclusive which are divisible by 3?
Follow
3
Best Answer: first you find the first and the largest number divisible by 3 between 300 and 600 !
(300 and 600) after that . find which number is 600. using the formula

An = a + (n -1 )d

= 600 = 300 +(n-1)3

=300=3n-3
=303/3=n
therefore n= 101 .
therefore, 600 is the 101 term of the ARITHMETIC PROGRESSION
after that

S = n/2(a+l)

=101/2 (300 + 600)

101/2 * 900
=45450 !
that is your answer.

NOTE : a= 300, l= 600 n= 101 !
