RUNES
A personal introduction to the Elder Futhark
Runes by WAU

Women for Aryan Unity - WAU14.com

Welcome to our
very personal
look at the Elder
Futhark,
The Runes are broken into three sections or
groups of eight, called aett (aettir, plural). This
will help you to remember their order, and later, you will see their significance in magickal uses, this is how we interpret them when doing readings! In this booklet we will be featuring one Rune per page!
There are runes that we all have a huge pull towards, and there are runes
that some of us are not comfortable with yet, but for some reason they
keep on coming up in your / our readings, and even when trying to manipulate the reading a little to get what we want it never works out that
way for us. Embrace the runes you get in your readings as they are coming
up for a reason. Life is a series of battles and mysteries with smidgens of
love and laughter!

Fehu
Represents
wealth, cattle,
abundance, in older
societies and I guess
in some places still today, having cattle or
similar stock means
that you have some
kind of wealth and
shows you are able to
provide for your
family.

It represents the letter F!

The Runes

P. 4

Uruz
Is usually seen as a
symbol for strength,
power and primal
force. It can also mean
renewal, as in out with
the old and in with
the new.The aurochs
where a wild ox, if you
look at the rune and
then imagine an auroch coming towards
you, to confront you,
its head would be
down and its horns
would form the Uruz rune. This rune is all about
primal urges, strength, courage and raw power. I
love the primordial force of this rune.
It represents the letter U!

The Runes

P. 5

Thurisaz
Look at the rune
and imagine a thorn
from a rose bush, a
defense against enemies, security, a rune
of protection and repelling; a thorn also
attacks and draws
blood. This was the
first rune I ever had
tattooed on me, and
it was purely done
for its protection capabilities!

It represents the letters TH!

The Runes

P. 6

Ansuz
This rune always
makes me think of
Odin, Ansuz signifies Ash, Yggdrasil,
The World Tree.
The Asa-Gods, The
Aesir. Divine
inspiration. Its a
rune of intelligence;
harmony, truth and
wisdom, it reminds
me of how little I
know. Its almost a
cosmic intelligence,
beyond most of our
understanding. Its also articulate and cunning.
It represents the letter A!

The Runes

P. 7

Raido
This is a Rune I
always have with me
when I travel; we put
this over the door
of our new home
which in a way is
also traveling to a
new life. Your journey in life can also
be one towards spiritual enlightenment.
Seeing the larger
picture, using perspective.
It represents the letter R!

The Runes

P. 8

Kenaz
Do you ken? Or do
you know? This is a
rune of knowledge,
but its a torch of
knowledge, it lights
up the path of where
we should be going,
transformation and
regeneration.
If I am given this
rune, I open up my
mind; I know I will
be flooded with
truth, embrace the
creative force.
It represents the letter K!

The Runes

P. 9

Gebo
One of the most
powerful gifts we
receive is the gift of
friendship, love or
partnership.
If we treat friends
with love, respect
and honour we will
have these friends
always! Everything
in balance, life and
love!

It represents the letter G!

The Runes

P. 10

Wunjo
This is my oh rune,
when I receive it, I
just feel a pulse of
joy. This rune is associated with the
Goddess Freyja, the
goddess of love.
It can mean positive change. It revels in harmony and
personal reward and
who doesnt want
that?
You cannot ask for a better Rune to show up in a
reading.
It represents the letter V or W!

The Runes

P. 11

Hagalaz
A rune I am in awe of,
its a rune of destruction.
I just love the power you
can feel with this rune;
even saying its name is
powerful. It is a rune of
hail, think of yourself on
your farm, think of the
destruction hail would
bring, crops would die,
and you would have
nothing to feed yourself,
your family or the animals with over the long
winter. Many would not
survive the damage and
the repercussions of hail.
Its a destructive natural
force, and for me, that is something to be in awe of. It reminds us that everything must end, so that new life can
begin. Although survival of the repercussions of hail is demanding, it can be a cleansing experience, at some level.

It represents the letter H!

The Runes

P. 12

Nauthiz
When I have received
this rune it kind of jolts
me. It is the Rune of
need, the idea of binding
and constraint, I think,
is that what is needed?
Sometimes It is the when
it comes up I think its
making me ask, Is this
need or a want? Am I
or whoever I am reading
for, being honest regarding their true objectives.
Distress,
confusion,
conflict sometimes I
think it comes up when I
am almost manipulating
a reading, trying to find
out what the person wants the reading to say, when really
my instincts and the runes are telling me different. It kind
of slaps me in the face at times.

It represents the letter N!

The Runes

P. 13

Isa
Ice, frozen, stop, take
time, leave it until it thaws, put that
idea on hold, do not
change, or make decisions you are unsure about. This is
the rune I always advise people to meditate on when facing
a tough decision,
where your heart
usually
overrules
your brain! Stand
still and take time to
turn inward and wait for what is to come, or to
seek clarity on your situation.
It represents the letter I!

The Runes

P. 14

Jera
Oh I love this rune it
is related to autumn
the season of harvesting and plenty, it
will take time to
harvest, but it will
occur.
And for something
to harvest, it has to
be fertilized first,
so its also a sexual
rune, you know that
old saying about
ploughing the fields,
sowing the seeds, they have an agricultural, an
intellectual and a sexual meaning.
It represents the letter J or Y.

The Runes

P. 15

Eihawz
Reliability and Trust! It
took me a long time to
get this rune. It relates to
the Yew tree, a tree that
has been long used to
make items such as bows
and magical implements
such as wands. For me,
its a direction of power,
saying yes, this is good, it
is powerful and there is
magic about it, go ahead
and do it, the forces are
behind you, supporting you and directing
this action. It is primeval
forceful rune and I did
not understand this rune
until Uller showed himself to me as a hunter.

It represents the letters EI

The Runes

P. 16

Pertho
Oh I love this rune as
well, live in the moment!
It is a purse, it is hidden,
it is a womb, it is female
knowledge, it is also a bit
of a back off rune, sometimes, when you pick it
up, its like back off, this
is hidden from you and
you are not supposed to
know it, you are not a
wise woman yet. It is secretive, the secret knowledge of women. Also, it
is the All-Mothers rune,
other times when it appears, Frigga is saying,
I will protect this, and I
will mother this with all the guile of my womanhood. You
will know if its a back off or this is a secret or a rune of
motherhood and calm nurturing the moment you pick it
up.

It represents the letter P!

The Runes

P. 17

Algiz
I am always so happy
to be given this rune.
I just think Life &
Sacredness when I
pick it up,The warding off of evil. I also
have Algiz tattooed
on my leg! It is a connection to a higher
life, protection from
an unseen danger.
Tap into your higher
spiritual awareness it
is there!
It represents the letter Z or R!

The Runes

P. 18

Sowilo
Sowilo signifies the
sun and is also the
rune of light, fire,
happiness, it makes
me think of the sun
shining, giving its
blessing, but this
rune has a force, you
know when the sun
shines in your eyes,
and it has got that
unrelenting power, a
momentum behind
it, a new power will
be available to you
for positive changes in your life, victory when
facing adversities, health scares, and success. It is
a great all around Rune.
It represents the letter S!
The Runes

P. 19

Tiwaz
Tiwaz signifies Warrior, and is associated with the God Tyr.
It is a rune of judgment, wisdom and
outcome. Most folk
believe it is positive, but sometimes
I feel oh here we go
when I receive this
rune, sometimes we
are not always ready
to
acknowledge
the battle looming
ahead in order to
gain a much needed victory, be it a legal battle or
work! I always have to say Victory, Victory, Victory over and over when I get this Rune!
It represents the letter T!
The Runes

P. 20

Berkana
It symbolizes new
birth, once again another rune i love.
Feminine
knowledge, power, understanding, feminine
fertility and birth. It
makes me think of
midwives, who historically have been
wise women. We as
modern day women
have to wear many
different hats, mother, teacher, wife,
cook, warrior the list is endless, and we have many
responsibilities, new beginnings, new growth,
birth and children and the cycle continues!
This represents the letter B!
The Runes

P. 21

Ehwaz
It symbolises a wonderful
spiritual
journey, travel or
a change in career
or home. This is
the rune of horses,
movement, moving
forward with force.
Sometimes a little
unpredictable, like a
horse, but we should
focus on movement
and change for the
better when we get
this rune! Sometimes change is gradual but the key is to always
keep on moving forward.
This represents the letter E!

The Runes

P. 22

Mannaz
Relates to mankind,
but it is not always
masculine. It is not a
rune I have worked
with a lot, it does
not often crop up
for me in a reading.
I do have it tattooed
on my leg as it represents the M in a
name I have written,
a person who gave
me much knowledge
and strength to do
what I needed to do
without guilt or fear! So for me I grasp at the intelligence and structure element of this rune.
It represents the letter M!

The Runes

P. 23

Laguz
Oh I like this rune
a lot; it represents
a womans understanding and psychic
matters for me. If you
get a flood of warmth
when you hold this
rune, it is very positive. I think of flowing water, fertility,
fluid movement, life,
energy and growth!
It is also a great rune
for using in astral
projection!
It represents the letter L!

The Runes

P. 24

Inguz
Sex and fertility,
need I say more, it
is a great rune. For
me, it always brings
Freya to mind although a masculine
fertility rune that actually represent Frey.
Only yesterday when
looking at a photo
someone had put up
of a trip you could
clearly see this rune
illuminated on a
building, the person
had not seen it before and then remarked after I
pointed it out that was all he could now see! This
rune represents all that is good, love, warmth,
common sense, home, caring, listening to your
inner self.
It represents the letters NG!
The Runes

P. 25

Dagaz
Its time to focus
and find a balance
between light and
dark, it makes me
think, this will occur sooner rather
than later. Awareness, breakthroughs,
daylight and clarity, a paradigm shift.
When I am in a particularly dark place
in my life this is the
rune I look to. Once
you overcome that
darkness daylight comes, now is the time to embark on something new, embrace the clarity!
This represents the letter D!

The Runes

P. 26

Othala
Inheritance,
our
people, our homes,
and our homeland.
Othala is the inherited wealth that
comes from ones
ancestors through
their customs and
ways of life. Traditions that are passed
on from generation
to generation. Ones
true wealth is what
you have learned
and passed on from
those before you! This rune may be worked with
to protect, increase, or establish a heritage / tradition intended for future generations.
This represents the letter O!
