Learning Objective:
Students will be able to demonstrate the meaning of sound and silence by its respective symbols.
Differentiated Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the lesson 95% of the students can distinguish aurally between sound and silence.
By the end of the lesson 75% of the students can follows signs indicating sound and silence.
By the end of the lesson 50% of the students can explain relationship of images to sound and
silence through a song.

Application to the Real Life Experience:
The students can apply this lesson in their daily lives like listening rhythms, sound and silence in every
place they go; they would know when to make sound and when to be silent.

Introduction:
Start the class with a song they learned from grade 1 or any song they know. Using the same song,
conduct a game, say when you see me put my index finger on my lips (sign for silence), you continue
singing but without a sound; singing only on your mind. Then, when I remove my finger and conduct
the song, you have to sing aloud.

Main Learning Activities:

1. After singing activity game, another group game with pointing system, introduce
rhythm and its role in music; let the students relate the rhythm as the heartbeat of
music to the function of the human heart.
2. Then, short discussion on symbols pertaining to sound and silence.
3. Give them simple rhythmic pattern unique per group; ask them to make a sound for
sound symbols like clapping, stomping, snapping etc. and silence for the silence symbol.
4. Teach to them the song Music Sound and Silence; ask them to do body percussions to
make simple rhythmic patterns while singing and do silence when theres a silence
symbol.
Plenary:
Students group performance on the rhythmic patterns given by the teacher.

Homework:
Memorize and practice the Fruit and Vegetables for the Presentation.
