Aims 1-to create involvement and reintroduce the members of the family and numbers from 1 to
20
2- to introduce the verb to be (I/you/he/she/it)- affirmative, negative and interrogative
forms
3- to practice the verb to be, numbers from 1 to 20 and the members of the family
CONTENTS
Aim 1 (10 minutes)

Interaction:T-S S-S

Activity:The teacher and the students greet eachother. The teacher asks them questions
such as: How are you?, How old is your brother, Marian?, How old is your brother, Timeea?.
Then she asks a student to count to twenty. After that she continues the interaction with the
students Whats your mothers name?, Whats your fathers name? and so on. She asks the
students to tell her the members of the family. She writes the title of the lesson and the date on
the blackboard. The students listen to a dialogue between Lee and Mona and afterwards take
roles to read the lines of the two children. The students solve exercise 2 page 20 where they have
to read and choose a or b.

Possible problems: some students might encounter difficulties in answering some of the
questions
Aim 2 (10 minutes)
Interaction:T-S
Activity: The teacher asks the students to look at the green rectangle from page 21 and
pay attention to how the words are pronounced. The teacher first pronounces the singular forms
of the verb to be and then she asks the students to repeat.The students have to pay attention to
the fact that the verb to be has short forms which use an apostrophe. The students also find out
how to ask questions using the verb to be and answer them (Are you a singer? No, Im not).
The teacher asks the students questions using the verb to be (Is Bogdan your brother? No, he
isnt; Is Timeea your sister? No, she isnt. Are you a teacher? No, Im not; Are you a cat? No,
Im not; Are you a boy? Yes, I am/ No, Im not, Are you a girl? Are you an orange? Are you a
pupil?)

Possible problems: the students might have problems adjusting to answering questions
using the verb to beAim 3 (25 minutes)

Activity: The teacher starts practicing the verb to be with the students through various
exercises. Along with the practice of to be the students also reinforce numbers from 1 to 20
and family members. The exercises ask the students to work in pairs where they ask and answer
questions (4/page 21). The students will ask and answer questions about the projects they had
with the title My family. The students will also listen to a CD where they have to recognise the
numbers they hear.
