Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, Wrttemberg, Germany. Einstein,
and his two years younger sister, Maja, grew up in a non religious Jewish family. Herman
Einstein, his dad was an engineer and salesman, him and his brother founded
Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein & Cie, an electrical manufacturing company. Pauline Koch,
his mother was a housewife. When Einstein was less than a month old his family and him
moved to Munich, where he lived for only a couple of years before he moved to Italy, then
Switzerland. He then became a citizen in Switzerland, as soon as he was the required age he
joined the military. After the military he went to college and got a degree so he could later
become a teacher for mathematics or physics.
During his time spent in college he met his future wife, Mileva Maric. Mileva Maric was a
Serbian physics student, because of her ethnicity his parents disapproved of them. Him and his
soon to be wife in 1902 had a child named, Lieserl, whose whereabouts still remain a mystery.
In 1903 his father died and the couple got married and had two children Hans and Eduard. In
1919 Einstein and Mileva got a divorce since he was having an affair with his cousin. As a part
of their settlement Einstein agreed to to give her any funds he received from the nobel peace
prize if he won it. In the same year of his divorce Einstein and his cousin, Elsa Lwenthal, were
married. He continued to have affairs throughout this second marriage which ended with
Lwenthals death.
Unrecognized as a genius he couldnt really find a teaching job, so he tutored until
offered to become the technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. During his free time
working at the office he came up with a lot of his great discoveries and was appointed to be a
college professor.
Einstein changed the nature of the way we see the physical world. He had his own thoughts
about the nature of light, the existence of molecules, theories on mass, time and physical
absolutes. The Theory of Relativity changed the way people saw things. He said time, mass
and length were dependent on the motion of the observer ( E=mc2). In 1905 he had articles
published about his theory of relativity and got a lot of recognition and went onto winning

awards. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921. Many more awards followed after that like,
honorary degree, copley medal, barnard medal for meritorious service, Max planck medal, gold
medal, gold medal of the royal astronomical society, Matteucci, and the Franklin award.
Einstein started working in Germany and became a German citizen and for political
reasons had to move and become an American citizen. When moving to America and took a
position at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, New Jersey. He never went back to his
native land. In 1939 Einstein and another physicist, Leo Szilard wrote the the president at the
time, Franklin D. Roosevelt alerting him of the atomic bomb.
When the quantum theory came out all physicists were focused on that and he withdrew
from any attention and continued to work on his theory about relativity. On April 17, 1955
Einstein had suffered an abdominal aortic aneurysm and refused surgery saying "I want to go
when I want, It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will
do it elegantly." -Einstein. He died the next morning on April 18 1955.
