Causes of Fatal Accidents by Decade


The table below was complied from the PlaneCrashInfo.com database, representing 1,104 accidents from 1/1/1960 to 12/31/2015, for which a definitive cause was known. The accident planes
include those with 10 or more passengers and one or more fatalities. Military and private aircraft and helicopters were excluded. Where there were multiple causes, the most prominent cause
was used. The category of pilot error includes those accidents in which weather or a mechanical fault was a strong contributing factor to the pilot error.
