Introduction to Configuration
Files
Table of Contents
Background................................................................................................................1-1
Template Composition ...............................................................................................1-1

1.1 Background
Initial configuration refers to a process of establishing a set of initial configuration data for
base station provisioning in accordance with the site's hardware configuration, network
planning and network optimization data, and other requirements after a base station is
installed.
The configuration files are usually used in the large-scale provisioning of the base stations,
which are parameter configuration templates in Excel format. After filling the parameters
in the configuration files by the planning engineers, they can be imported to the network
management system in batches for configuring parameters quickly.

1.2 Template Composition

The configuration file template includes the terrestrial configuration file template and radio
configuration file template.
l
l

Terrestrial configuration file template: All systems use the same planning template.
Radio configuration file template: Each system has an independent configuration file
template. A multimode system has multiple configuration file templates.

A configuration file template is an excel file that contains many sheets.

1.2.1 File Description

A configuration file template file contains the following sheets:
l

l
l

Choose sheet: Only the terrestrial configuration file template uses the Choose sheet.
A Choose sheet provides options to create a template. A template can be created
based on the radio system, transmission type, or special scenario.
Template sheet: The Template sheet provides the template information such as the
NE type, template type/version, and descriptions.
Index sheet: The Index sheet provides hyperlinks to other sheets and describes the
content of each sheet briefly.

Configuration sheets: The configuration sheets are the main parts of the template.
Each configuration sheet corresponds to multiple MO objects and contains attribute
parameters of the MO objects.

1.2.2 Configuration Sheet Description

Chapter 2

Use of Configuration Files

Figure 2-1 shows how to use a configuration file template.
1. Obtain a template.
When using a configuration file template for the first time, configure a set of data on the
GUI of the network management system and export the data to form a configuration
file template that has the initial data.
2. Configure the template.
Fill in the template with the planning data according to the requirements of the project.
3. Import the data.
Import the template data to the network management system.
4. Synchronize the data.
Upload the data to the base station and make the data effective.
Figure 2-1 Use of a Configuration File

l
l

Note:
The data must be backed up before any of the data is modified.
You need to make sure that no other users are using the NE data before you modify
the data and you need to make sure that no tasks that consume much time and many
resources are being executed on the server.
The quantity of the managed base stations of which the parameters are modified in
the whole network cannot exceed 500.

2.1 Obtaining a Template

When there is no existing configuration file template that can be used for the first time, by
applying the planning data export function in the network management system, the data
configured on the GUI can be exported into a configuration file template.

Steps
1. Select Configuration Management > Planning Data Export. The Planning Data
Export dialog box is displayed, see Figure 2-2.
Figure 2-2 Planning Data Export Dialog Box

1. NE resource area

2. Export setting area

3. Result display area

2. In the NE resource area, select the NE that needs to export the data.
3. In the export setting area, set the parameters to be exported.
a. Set the type of the template to be exported, such as the terrestrial configuration
file template or radio configuration file template of each system.
b. Set the file storage attribute, such as the path and file name.
4. Click Export to export the data.
The export status is displayed in the result display area.
End of Steps

2.2 Template Configuration

The resource configuration in the configuration file template contains the terrestrial
resource configuration and the radio resource configuration.

Chapter 2 Use of Configuration Files

1. Use the terrestrial template to configure the terrestrial resources.

a. Configure the device resources, providing the physical bearer entity.
b. Configure the clock/time resources, provide the clock signals and network time for
transmission.
c.

Configure the transmission resources,

provide the physical or network

2. Use the radio template to configure the radio resources.

2.2.1 Terrestrial Resource Configuration

As for the default terrestrial configuration file template, its planning sheets and parameters
do not need to be all considered in the actual scenario. To configure the terrestrial
resources quickly and effectively, the terrestrial configuration file template provides a
Choose sheet to generate a template.
As required, after you select Radio System, Transmission Type, and Special Scenario,
and then click Generate a Template, the template filters the sheets that are compliant with
these options and hides the other sheets.

Note:
Multiple options on the Choose sheet can be selected. However, options may restrict one
another. For example, when LTE FDD or TD-LTE is selected for Radio System, FE/GE
is selected automatically for Transmission Type. Other transmission types cannot be
selected.

2.2.1.1 Device Resource Configuration

Figure 2-3 shows the device resource configuration. The configuration flow is described
as follows:
1. Establish a base station.
2. Configure the cabinets.
The cabinets contain the primary cabinet, the secondary cabinet, and the extension
cabinet. The cabinet configuration depends on the site type.
l

Distributed base station, integrated base station, and microcell: Only one primary
cabinet is configured.
l Macrocell: Besides the primary cabinet, the secondary cabinet also needs to be
configured.
l At present, the extension cabinet is used to hold the FCE board. If the base
station is deployed with the FCE, and not deployed with the primary cabinet or
the secondary cabinet, the extension cabinet needs to be configured.
3. Configure the boards.
