5 Installing and removing an NSQM1FWDFGD1 card

CAUTION:
Wear a reliably-grounded ESD wrist strap before you install or remove the firewall card.
Do not touch the surface-mounted components directly with your hands when you install or remove the
firewall card.
The slots on the M9000 gateways are either horizontally oriented or vertically oriented. When installing
the card in a horizontal slot, make sure its PCB faces up. When installing the card in a vertical slot, make
sure its PCB faces left.
This section uses a horizontally oriented card to describe the installation and removal procedures.

5.1 Installing an NSQM1FWDFGD1 card

1.

Face the front panel of the gateway.

2.

Identify the slot to install the firewall card, and remove the filler panel from the slot.
This manual uses slot 3 as an example.

3.

Place the firewall card horizontally on a workbench with the surface-mounted components facing
up. Pull outward the ejector levers and gently push the firewall card in along the slot guide rails.

4.

Push the ejector levers inward until the firewall card is in close contact with the backplane.

5.

Tighten the captive screws on the firewall card.

5.2 Removing an NSQM1FWDFGD1 firewall card

1.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the captive screws on the firewall card until all pressure is
released.

2.

Pull the ejector levers at both sides of the firewall card outward, and pull the firewall card along the
guide rails until it completely comes out of the backplane.

3.

Place the firewall card on an anti-static workbench with the surface-mounted components up, or
put it in an anti-static bag.

4.

If no new firewall card is to be installed, install a filler panel to prevent dust and ensure good
ventilation in the gateway.

6 Software upgrade
For information about upgrading the NSQM1FWDFGD1 firewall card, see the release notes for the
gateway.
