Lesson Plan

Day: M T W T F
Year: 7

Date: 21/08/2016

Time: 12.11- 13.13

Learning Area: _BIO

_ Topic: Why are plants green?
Curriculum content description: (from ACARA)
Photosynthesis is a biochemical process that in plant cells occurs in the chloroplast
and that uses light energy to synthesise organic compounds; the overall process
can be represented as a balanced chemical equation (ACSBL052)

Students prior knowledge and experience:

(Outline what the students already know about this topic)
Know the different organelles in Plant cells
Know their function
Know that plants are living and grow

Learning purpose:

(May refer to the Elaborations of the curriculum content

description here)

Learning objectives:

Evaluation:

On completion of this lesson,

students will be able to:

(Explain how you will know that lesson

objective have been achieved / monitor
student learning)

To understand the function of chloroplast

To know why leaves are green
Understand that chlorophyll is the pigment
that plants need to absorb light.
Understand that plants make their own food.
Know what is needed for photosynthesis and
what the output is.
Know the equation of photosynthesis.

Think pair share questions will enable kids to

work collaboratively and sharing their
answers will enable me to evaluate if the
objective has been achieved.
Writing their summary in their interactive
notebook before leaving.

Preparation and Resources:

(Detail what resources will be used and what other preparation of the learning environment
will be required)
- Print slides for Mason ( part of his IEP)
- Projector
- Paper for think pair share
- Slides
- Photosynthesis video

Catering for diversity

(detail any adjustments considerations for

educational/resource adjustments)
-

Slides will be printed for Mason ( Part of his IEP)

Same information is being presented in different forms ( Video, slides, collaborative
work)

Learning Experiences:
1. Introduction: (How will I engage the learners?)
Starting the topic by a video on Photosynthesis
S2BTransition: Ask kids to write down 3 dot points from the video
Tell them that they need to be ready to share their dot points
S2B then Start video
Transition again after video
After video, randomly choose one kid to share 1 dot point he/she got from the
video
Ask few of them

35
mins

2. Sequence of learning experiences: (What will you do to help the

students achieve the learning objectives? What tasks and activities will
the students be involved in to help achieve the learning objectives?)
-

10
mins

Explanation of the lesson in form of notes ( slides)

Students will be asked to write down the notes from the slides ( While
reading off the slides and writing it down, they are actually reading it and
will understand the concept)
After the notes, to consolidate their knowledge, think pair share will be an
activity that will test if whether students have met the objectives.

3. Lesson conclusion: (How will you summarise the learning and relate it
to the lesson objectives?)
After the activity, I will summarise the lesson by verbally saying the key points.
Then kids will be asked to write down their summary at the end of their
interactive notebook.
Check their summary and ask them to pack up.

Lesson Evaluation:
(Reflect on the lesson. What worked? What did not work? What would you change? Why?)
