PERSONAL STATEMENT

One of the most thought provoking questions one can ask oneself is What if? which we dont tend to
do very often. I feel this simple question is seminal to the advancement to the top of the evolution chain
that we humans have made. What if we didnt discover fire, what if we didnt invent vaccination, what if
we didnt have the internet? As much as that thought scared me, it intrigued me even more. My
grandmother is an octogenarian, who never had any formal education but had a panacea for every
commonly occurring infection and ailment. In astonishment I would ask her how she had panacea for
everything, and she would answer it in her modest way It was passed on from my elders. It was one of
those moments of epiphany, when a thought crossed my mind What if we could use the data that we
have been accumulating over the last few centuries of our evolution to come up with better solutions to
our everyday problems?
As it turns out, as I was doing further research on this topic, I learned that there was a whole field of
knowledge base trying to do the same, from IBM with their Big Data, to Google with Instant Search
to name a few. The thing that I found common in all of them was that they were using previously
collected data to come up with better solution or suggestion for the end user. But the field that fascinated
me the most was Whole Genome Sequencing, where the entire genome of humans, animals and plants
could be sequenced to get genetic information, like, to find the origin and susceptibility to diseases. Then
a question flashed across my mind, Was this the same thing that my grandmother was talking about?
Information passed from generation to generation in the form of mutations or abnormalities in our genes,
which if correctly prognosed could be effectively treated. On further investigation I learnt that this form
of sequencing would not have been possible if not for the strides made in the field of computing hardware
and we are at the right moment in history to make this happen. In early part of previous decade the cost to
get a human genome sequenced was couple of hundred thousand dollars, but today the cost associated
with this is less than couple of thousand dollars and this is expected to fall further down. In the very near
foreseeable future, it might be a norm to get infants sequenced at birth to provide them with preventive
medication, for diseases they might be susceptible to. It is one of the many fields that this approach could
provide a cost effective solution to. But this needed organizing data and making sense of massive amounts
of data and I learned that the field of study involved with this is Information Systems.
Management of Information Systems has become one of the indispensable aspects of our life and now it
has a predominate clout on our world. Institutions are increasingly depending on the information systems
to furnish assistance in decision making in functional activities, management operations and for
augmented effectiveness in its multifarious business fields and the demand for smart people who
understand both business and technology. Ergo, my short term goal is to pursue Masters in Business
Administration, with the coursework including the Financial Reporting & Analysis, Marketing strategies.
My long term goal is to work as a Business Analyst for a multinational company which is specialized in
the field of Data Analysis, such as the Palantir Technologies.
Based on my preliminary research on this topic I felt that we have just seen the tip of the iceberg in terms
of the gamut of application of Information Systems and I felt this was the right field to work after my
Masters degree. I have a unique perspective, both from hardware and software side through my academic
and internship experience. I pursued an Undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering from
SRM University, India. My specialization included Operating Systems, Data Base Management Systems,
Advanced Databases, Computer Programming, and Mathematics was my favorite subject all through my
academic career, because it gave me an opportunity to think out of the box.

.
Growing up as a kid my parents always emphasized on me the need for having a well-rounded
personality. It was with their encouragement that I always involved myself in activities that interested
me. One of the things that interested me the most was learning different languages. It was with this
interest that I pursued learning German language. It involved one year of rigorous training, which tested
my determination to learn the language, as I had to handle it with my course load during my under
-graduation. I was also actively involved with a debating group, which opened me to different
perspectives on an issue. This experience also taught me to respect other peoples opinion and not to be
judgmental, as opinions are formed through ones own experiences in life.
I was also involved in the organizing of a Technical event in Ubertech14 & 15, National level technical
Symposium. Apart from these, I have been involved as a volunteer for Rotaract club, a people welfare
organization which works for the betterment of desperate people. I have also been a Team leader for
Student Robotics club, which basically involves in the training of students belonging to sophomore and
junior years in the field of Artificial Intelligence. My involvement in all these organizations as a volunteer
made me appreciate the things that I would have otherwise taken for granted. This experience also left me
with a sense of satisfaction of giving back to the society.
As I aspire to see myself as a Business Analyst, I am convinced that a Masters degree in Business
Administration at your elite university will help me relize my ambitions. A convergence of industry
oriented courses, eminent faculty and quality of students admitted would be an ideal breeding ground for
quality education .The curriculum of your university has left me impressed and I wish for an opportunity
to learn and grow in such an enriching environment. I believe that it would open up avenues that would
make me a better professional and consequently enhance the quality of my life and work. It would be an
honour to be offered an admission at (North Hampton University) and once admitted I am confident that
it will be a mutually fruitful relationship. Thank you for your time and consideration.
