A NEW VIDEO CHAT WITH USA

The Global Understanding program is a unique opportunity that helps students

to exchange ideas. For that, the last Tuesday all of us had the opportunity to
talk with new friends in our native language and in English, too.
First of all, we started the conversation in English, we discussed about college
life in which we share our experiences choosing our schedules and the courses
that we are taking in the university. After that we discovered some differences
like students from ECU have dorms and their university is so big that to go to
classes some of them take a bus. In our case is different because our university
is not too big and all the students from Universidad Continental have their
own house, and in the case of students that are not from Huancayo, they rent
some bedrooms near the university.
Then, we talked about if our parents pay our expenses of the university. They
told us that their parents are the ones who pay the university , and we were so
curious that we asked how much costs to study in ECU , and they told us that it
is expensive , and the amount is about 30 000 dollars per year. When they told
that all of us were in shock because in our university we pay about 3000 dollars
per year , and the same thing happen with tem , they were in shock because
we are lucky to pay that amount and have a good education.
After it, we talked about our hobbies and what we do in our vacations. Most of
us told them that we love to dance, so we go to the disco. Also, we enjoy
hanging out with our friends and sometimes we travel to the jungle which is an
amazing place in our country to relax. In their case, they told us that they
travel around the world, like one girl told us that in her last vacation they when
to The Bahamas with her parents.
The other part of the great conversation was in our native language in which all
of us tried to speak slowly so that our friends can understand. They started
with some questions about Peru, we told them that Peru has a great diversity of
places to visit and relax. For example, Machu Picchu is one of the wonders and
has a beautiful landscape.
Also, we talked about Peruvian food which is very delicious and we said that we
have different typical dishes from each region of Peru like in the coast the
representative dish is Ceviche , in the case of the jungle is Juane and in the
highland of Peru the representative dish is Pachamanca.
Finally, we talked about the perspective of Peru, and they told us that they
know that Peru is known for Machu Picchu and their food. They told us that

they never taste a Peruvian dish and all of us told them that they should
because it is delicious.
In conclusion, USA and Peru have similarities and differences and that kind of
things make our countries interesting. I strongly agree that all the differences
help us in order to grow up as a person. Also we learn a lot about another
culture because we exchange ideas and learn how to view the world from
another perspective. I had a great time with our new friends of USA because
they are talkative and they were so open to answer our doubts. I think that we
tried to do the same thing for them to feel comfortable. I am sure that this kind
of video chats helps us to practice our pronunciation and listening. I realize that
most of us feel more comfortable when we have the video chats and we
participate more than before.
