Naushawng Community School

Certificate in English and Social Studies


Programme Overview
Naushawng Community School (NCS) offers a 12-month
boarding training programme administered by
Naushawng Education Network (NSEN), a non-profit and
non-governmental organization founded in April 2009 by
Kachin graduates from international universities . Since its
foundation, NSEN has been providing educati onal and
leadership training for the promotion of peaceful,
harmonious and prosperous society in Kachin State and
Myanmar. With seven years of successful provision in
Kachin State, NCSs curriculum and teaching is designed
to reflect current focus areas in education as well as
leadership and human resource priorities of the region.
With a focus on independent, creative and cooperative
learning, NCSs internationally experienced teachers
provide courses in English, Social Studies and Professional
Development with an interdisciplinary approach. Students
undertake courses accumulating 67 credits, delivered
over three trimesters, progressing to the final trimester
featuring the Capstone (mini-research) Project and IELTS
preparation. NCS serves as a gateway education provider,
for early and mid-career preparation, and as a leadership
and social empowerment centre for young adults.

Programme Objectives
NSEN curriculum is exclusively framed to promote the
following objectives:
1. develop leadership capacity of young adults in line
with emerging challenges and opportunities,
2. encourage harmonious and vibrant society through
social and political awareness and engagement,
3. cultivate analytical, creative and innovative
abilities,
4. extend and strengthen English language skills and
use for all aspects of professional endeavours,
5. guide and support opportunities for further and
higher education, and
6. enhance career prospects through this provision.

NCS is uniquely structured into three trimesters. In trimester (A), students will extend and apply their developing
English language skills. At the same time, students will be introduced to basic concepts and theories of social and
political science while cultivating critical and creative attitudes. In trimester (B), more purpose-oriented English
courses, such as English for academic use and Business Communication, will be provided. In the final trimester,
students will become familiar with IELTS (and preparation for IELTS) accompanied by extensive opportunities for
practice, in addition to Research Methodology which will be applied via the Capstone (mini-research) Project.

Graduate Destination
The NCS programme is designed for those who are
seeking study opportunities at international universities
and employment within international and local NGOs.
Many former NCS students have attended further studies
at universities in Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines,
Thailand, India and Cambodia , while others are now
working in various non-governmental organizations
across Myanmar.
Minimum Entry Requirements must
Be residents of Myanmar
Have passed at least the matriculation exam, or
be university students or graduates.
Provide two letters of recommendation from
community leaders (i.e., pastor, teacher,
supervisor, or employer)
Pass the entrance exam and interview set by the
NCS Selection Committee.
Have Pre-Intermediate level of English as a
foundation
Prospective students must also be able to board
at the NCS Campus during his / her study
Fees
Students have to pay 250,000 MMK per trimester for
tuition, accommodation, daily meals, and secondary

reading materials such as handouts, copies of articles and


magazines. This fee does not cover stationeries and
textbooks. The approximate cost of textbooks over the
three trimesters is 120,000 MMK.
Financial Support
Applicants with financial difficulties may apply for a NSEN
scholarship. Financial support will be granted based on an
applicants academic merits and needs.
