Geriatric Medicine
Various changes take place in the human body as a person ages: an older person reacts in
different ways to disease, trauma, surgery, drug therapy, and so forth, than a younger one. This
happens due to the change in proportion of body lipids and water, altered cellular physiology,
and immune mechanisms, which is why older people tend to develop degenerative conditions
and pathological disorders quicklyhowever, the resultant use of multiple medications may
cause adverse drug reactions, and latrogenic disorders, which are those caused by medication
itself, may occur.
Geriatric medicine is a branch of medicine that is committed to the idea of preventive medicine
for the elderly. It deals with the clinical, psychological, and social aspects of patients over 60
years of age, and assures that an elderly person receive accurate diagnosis, treatment, and

Pharmacy Department
Pharmacy is the science and technique of preparing and dispensing drugs. It plays a vital role to
ensure the safe and effective use of drugs. At GIH, the department has a team of 26 Pharmacists
determined to go an extra mile to make the use of drugs for patients safer. Good Pharmacy
Practice guidelines and legal requirements are strictly followed at zero tolerance in all
pharmacy operations. Our Pharmacy infra-structure is well-designed to maintain the quality of
sensitive items such as vaccines and life-saving drugs.
With world class infra structure, the humidity, temperature and all other parameters are kept in
standard at the pharmacy and the store so that the quality of sensitive drugs like vaccines, lifesaving drugs and chemotherapeutic drugs are very well maintained. With the computerized
record keeping and use of patient database, the appropriate drugs reach the admitted patients
with almost zero chances of medicinal errors.
The pharmacy at GIH is also the cornerstone of our Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP)

A vast number of Nepali people travel abroad for better health servicesbecause they believe
that healthcare of that quality is not possible in the hospital infrastructure present in Nepal.
However, the people who are able to afford international health travel are only a small minority
of the entire population of Nepalese who are still left with a dire need of a quality, patient-centric
healthcare center of international standards at an affordable cost. Similarly, many young and
newly trained nurses and doctors are bound to leave the country in search of better employment
opportunities abroad. If such practitioners desired to work at an institution in Nepal that had the
best infrastructure, and state-of-the-art equipment, which institution would they turn to?
Grande International Hospital was created with the vision to fill this existing void in the Nepali
healthcare industry. It is dedicated to the seamless delivery of quality, patient-centric
healthcarewhich means supplying everything a patient may need, from acute critical care to
rehabilitation to transitional care to home healthcare servicesat an affordable cost. Our goal is
to establish in this country a culture of continuous improvement in healthcarenot only by
providing excellent healthcare services but also by conducting community health education
seminars, outreach programs, and wellness programs in several parts of Nepal.
This has not been an easy year for any of usan earthquake of 7.8 magnitude in April followed
by economic crisis as a result of cessation of entry of goods into the country has hit institutions
and people likewise. However, even in such difficult situations, Grande International Hospital
has not strayed away from its commitments and continues to provide its services to the Nepali
people. This would not have been possible if our staff, well-wishers, and shareholderswho
have already demonstrated their commitment to contributing to the development of Nepal by
investing their time, effort, and money in Grandehad not stood beside us. My heartfelt
gratitude goes out to all of you.
In the future, I hope that Grande International Hospital can serve as a benchmark for the
development of many healthcare institutions of international standards in different parts of
Nepal. Until and beyond that, Grande will continue to be a hospital for the people of Nepal.
Wishing you the best of health and a very Happy New Year,
Grande International Hospital (GIH) has been initiated in Nepal with a groundbreaking
ceremony on 8th April 2010 with the determination to cultivate the culture of contemporary
modern medicine in Nepal. Our shareholders, 125 in total, are convinced that the foundation of
good healthcare is a symbol of modern civilization. GIH is an institution that is equipped with
35 capable specialties and subspecialties. This makes it possible for GIH to treat any patient by a
team of highly dedicated and professional physicians and allied healthcare providers. The
foundation of medicine lies not only in infrastructure but also in values of medicine. GIH has
embraced best practice values. These include academics, evidence-based medicine, research and
appropriate technology. A good working environment with a patient-centric approach has been
recognized as the most desired practice, which I am honored to say is the Modus Operandi for
GIH.
Healthcare is considered the most noble service that provides the highest satisfaction. GIH with
its helipad on the rooftop has made it possible to carry out rescue operations. In 2014 and 2015
more than 300 patients were flown into GIH with emergency cases such as patients with stabbed
wound in the heart to major acute myocardial infection and major polytrauma. This has given
hope and immediate access for the people of Nepal that life can be saved. GIH is only a
philosophy of modern medical care and a stepping-stone for achieving excellent healthcare
services in our country.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cardiac Care Unit, Neonatal ICU and Pediatric ICU have
enabled people in need to get a new breath of life. Such treatments are supported by a 160-slice
CT Scan, 1.5 Tesla MRI, excellent Pathology & Biochemistry services and Operation Theatres
with hepa filters. State-of-the-art Central Sterilization Facilities, an Antibiotic Stewardship
Program, a Hand Hygiene Program and other facilities have made this institution the center of
excellence.
Treatment is done with open mindedness. Care to patient is provided not only by in-house
consultation, but if needed by inter-institutional and international consultations. GIH has adopted
the policy of providing best possible patient-centric care as its ultimate goal.
GIH has also created job opportunities to more than 800 staff. By equipping itself with the stateof-the-art equipment and facilities the institution has been able to attract and retain some of the
most qualified staff in the field of medicine to stay back in the country and serve the nation. As
the institution grows we intend to employ even more to retain the specialist in the country. In
this context, this national institution can be seen as the property of the country.
GIH also played a major role during the time of recent earthquake in the country by continuing
its services available throughout the period of crisis. It also continues to be engaged in many
other national and social events as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
We at GIH strongly believe that our journey has just begun to provide reasonable and affordable
health care to our people. Success to us is a journey not an end in itself. Our responsibility to the
present and future generations for better health will never be compromised. We commit to work
harder and make quality health care and healthy living a possibility in our country. She truly
deserves it.
At the end, we would like to reiterate that we very much value your suggestions, belief and faith
in us and take our patients as our teachers and God. We will always keep ourselves in their place
before making medical and surgical decisions. Dharma is only possible if we are able to bring
happiness with honest services to all our patients.
GIH and its family wish you all a very healthy life and inner happiness to all.
