Precious Metals - Silver's Positive Application - Part 2

In Review
Strong's definition of silver is:

H3701 - ‫ כסף‬- keseph - keh'-sef - From H3700; silver (from its pale color); by
implication money: - money, price, silver (-ling).

When we look at 3700, the Hebrew root for this Hebrew word 'keseph,' we find this:

H3700 - ‫ כסף‬- kâsaph - kaw-saf' - A primitive root; properly to become pale, that is,
(by implication) to pine after; also to fear: - [have] desire, be greedy, long, sore.

As always, the best way to define a word is to look at how it is used in God's
Word. Here is how the holy spirit used this word:

H3700 - ‫ כסף‬- kâsaph - Total KJV Occurrences: 5 - desire, 1 - Job_14:15; desired, 1

- Zep_2:1; greedy, 1 - Psa_17:12; longedst, 1 - Gen_31:30; longeth, 1 - Psa_84:2

Here are five different English words with one single thought. That thought is the
concept of intense, strong, will not be denied, desire.

So silver is connected with the concept of a strong 'desire,' be it for good or evil.
Here are the five times this word appears in scripture:

Gen 31:30 And now, though thou wouldest needs be gone, because thou sore
longedst [Hebrew - kasaf] after thy father's house, [yet] wherefore hast thou stolen
my gods?

Psa 84:2 My soul longeth [Hebrew - kasaph], yea, even fainteth for the courts
of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.

Job 14:15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire [Hebrew -
kasaph] to the work of thine hands.

And this how this word is used in its negative application:

Psa 17:12 Like as a lion that is greedy [Hebrew - kasaph] of his prey, and as it
were a young lion lurking in secret places.

Zep 2:1 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired
[Hebrew - kasaph];

"Kasaph, " meaning 'strong desire,' is the Hebrew root from which "keseph," the
Hebrew word for silver is taken. There is great spiritual significance for that fact.
God will not be denied the desire to the work of His hands:
Job 14:15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire [Hebrew -
kasaph] to the work of thine hands.

2Sa 14:14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which
cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth
he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him .

Rom 5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to
condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all
men unto justification of life.

Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that
the world through him might be saved.

The flesh is sin and is condemned, "but he himself shall be saved... by fire."

1Co 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it,
because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what
sort it is.
1Co 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a
reward.
1Co 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself
shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

1Ti 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the
living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. [The first
fruits are special, but they are not the only fruits. They are the channel through
which all others are to be brounght to God].

1Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for
the sins of the whole world.

It is this strong desire that keeps God from taking no for an answer. That is why
silver is the sockets that form the foundation for the board and pillars of the
tabernacle, as we have seen earlier. We will return to this strong desire that causes
God to "devise means that His banished be not expelled from Him."

God's elect are distinguished from their brothers by the gift of silver
Gen 45:22 To all of them he gave each man changes of clothing, but to Benjamin
he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of clothing.

The New Testament fulfillment of this event is recorded in the gospel of John:

Joh 12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus
was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
Joh 12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one
of them that sat at the table with him.
Joh 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and
anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled
with the odour of the ointment.
Joh 12:4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's [son], which should
betray him,
Joh 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to
the poor? [Greek for 'pence' is 'denarii,' a silver Roman coin.]
Joh 12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief,
and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Joh 12:7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath
she kept this.
Joh 12:8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

Mary, in effect, gave Christ 300 pieces of silver "against the day of My
burying," yes, but also to show to us that Christ is God's firstfruit elect.

Christ, our atonement, is signified by silver

Exo 30:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Exo 30:12 When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number,
then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou
numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest
them.
Exo 30:13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are
numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel [is] twenty
gerahs:) an half shekel [shall be] the offering of the LORD.
Exo 30:14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty
years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.
Exo 30:15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a
shekel, when [they] give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your
souls.
Exo 30:16 And thou shalt take the atonement money [Hebrew - silver] of the
children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the
congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the
LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.

We are ransomed and determined to be in "the Israel of God" by silver, by our

atonement, by Christ.

What King David Learned About God's Desires

King David ignored the need to redeem those numbered as in Israel and he paid the
price and he learned that we do not offer anything to God for which proper payment
has not yet been made:

2Sa 24:1 And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he
moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

2Sa 24:15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the
time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy
thousand men.
2Sa 24:16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it,
the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people,
It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the
threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
2Sa 24:17 And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the
people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what
have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's
house.
2Sa 24:18 And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar
unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.
2Sa 24:19 And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD
commanded.
2Sa 24:20 And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on
toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face
upon the ground.
2Sa 24:21 And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant?
And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD,
that the plague may be stayed from the people.
2Sa 24:22 And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up
what [seemeth] good unto him: behold, [here be] oxen for burnt sacrifice, and
threshing instruments and [other] instruments of the oxen for wood.
2Sa 24:23 All these [things] did Araunah, [as] a king, give unto the king. And
Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

1Ch 21:24 And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full
price: for I will not take [that] which [is] thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt
offerings without cost.

What means has God devised, "that his banished be not expelled from
Him?"
Neither can we accept the sacrifice of others in our stead. We must all offer our own
bodies as a living sacrifice unto God. And it is here that we learn by what means
God has " devised..., that his banished be not expelled from him." Here is how that
is being accomplished:

Rom 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now
obtained mercy through their unbelief:
Rom 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your
mercy they also may obtain mercy.
Rom 11:32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy
upon all.
Rom 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
how unsearchable [are] his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Rom 11:34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his
counsellor?
Rom 11:35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him
again?
Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, [are] all things: to whom [be]
glory for ever. Amen.

What effect ought this knowledge have upon us? It ought to bring us, like King
David, to understand that we never offer anything to God, for which we have made
no payment, no atonement:

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service.

Conclusion
We have seen once again that the root word for silver carries the concept of
intense, strong, will not be denied, desire. We should now have a new appreciation
for verses like this:

1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the
truth.

We have seen how Joseph's love of Benjamin correlates to Mary's love of Christ.
Both involved three hundred pieces of silver.

We have seen how King David learned not to ignore what God strongly desires, to
the extent that David said he would not offer anything to the Lord for which he had
not himself made a valuable payment.

We have seen that Christ did not die as our substitute, but that He died so that we
too can now die with Him in baptism:

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were
baptized into his death?
and off our own bodies in sacrifice to Him:

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is
your reasonable service.

The false doctrine of Christ's substitutionary death, denies this Truth of Romans six
and twelve, and all the rest of the doctrine of Jesus Christ. Like this verse:

Col 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is
behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is
the church:

We have seen that God has indeed devised a way, so that His elect will show mercy
to those whose unbelief, has paved the way for their election.
We have seen that, according to the word of God, all things are done of and through
God:

Rom 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be
glory for ever. Amen.
