PDP is a capstone design course.

Students apply fundamental theoretical knowledge to practical process design problems.

This course will help future engineers to perform engineering design.

Course Learning Outcomes (PDP I)

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Integrate their chemical engineering skills in the conceptual

design of a chemical plant
Generate process options while maintaining operability and
safety of the design
Screen and evaluate the design alternatives with considerations
for sustainability elements using green engineering approach
Incorporate heat integration concepts in the selected design
alternative
Perform preliminary economic evaluation of the proposed
process design
Employ effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork
skills to effectively function as a process engineer

Course Learning Outcomes (PDP II)

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Demonstrate their chemical engineering skills and knowledge in a

detailed design of a chemical plant
Generate cost effective process options while maintaining
operability, safety and environment friendliness of the design
Apply appropriate design codes in a detailed design work
Develop a piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) and
control strategy package
Prepare detailed economic evaluation of the proposed chemical
plant
Communicate and organize design group as an effective team
member
