The long axis of the building is orientated North-south. The orientation of the long axis is north-south. The
longer walls of the building faces east and west to minimize the area of wall exposed to the sun. Translated
to the building envelope this means a partly coverage to keep the heat outside and collect sunlight in PVcells. Also the roofs of the two large canopies have an additional layer of sun collecting cells which can
provide about 12% of the total energy demand.

Shape of Namaste Tower

Namaste tower is shaped like a Surfing board and

two hands are clasped together.

The traditional Indian greeting of Namaste, where the hands are clasped
together in greeting, is the inspiration for the design of this tower.
In Sanskrit Namaste means I bow to you. It has a spiritual
significance of negating ones ego in the presence of another.
The Architecture of the Namaste Hotel builds on this ancient Indian
expression. The two wings of the hotel are clasped together like hands
greeting the city of Mumbai. In this way the architectural design of the
hotel provides the ultimate symbol of hospitality and welcome, as seen in
the cultural
context
India.

The tower is made up of two separate wings (or hands) which together form the
architectural expression of Namaste. The space between the wings forms the corridor spaces.
At either end of the corridor space a pair of open atria will offer hotel guests dramatic framed
views out over the city.
Internal Atrium Gardens These atria also serve to bring natural light deep into the plan.
At the plant floor levels these atria are broken with internal gardens that serve to bring greenery
into the corridor and atrium spaces. It was a central design aim to ensure that the circulation
areas of the hotel, (including corridors) are just as impressive as the rooms themselves.
At the summit of the building a generous quadruple height atrium space encloses a Sky
Restaurant and Bar which will provide a unique vantage point for patrons to gain panoramic

Building Skin

of the Namast Tower comes from the henna tattoo tradition. The buildings exterior features intricate Mehndi

The Tower is envisaged to be clad in white Alpolic and

glass that is fitted with a large scale architectural graphic. This
will create a sense of transparency and depth to the building, at the
same time maintaining the thermal qualities required to meet the
buildings envelope design criteria.
The Podium materials are envisaged to be a
white Alpolic cladding and aggregate pre-cast panels.

Mehndi
Indian weddings can offen be long ritualistic and elaborate affairs with
lots of pre-wedding, wedding and post wedding ceremonies. The occasion of a
Mehndi ceremony (where the hands and feet are decorated with henna) is often
one of the most important pre-wedding rituals especially for the bride.

STUCTURE

Structure of Namaste Tower made of glass, concrete, panels pre-cast and steel. This
building used glass because glass is transparent and you can see the outsides scenery and
exposed to the sun. This building used concrete because concrete is non-combustible, cant bend
(strength), rigid and because is concrete has the property of high compressive strength. And this
building used because is steel has the property of high tensile strength.

In this building there are three responses to the wind :

1. Torsional Response
2. Across wind response
3. Along wind response

The Podium
The geometry of the podium is designed to integrate fully with the design of the tower.
Thus it is a highly symmetrical form that responds to the wing like canopies above the drop off.
Containing mostly retail, the facade of the podium is activated with water features and
fountainsthat cascade down to street level.
Besides hotel guests, the office workers, deliveries and visitors has to be led into the building.
