Course Objectives:
The objective of the course is to familiarize the students with the fundamental
electromagnetic laws governing working of electric machines. The course emphasizes to
develop concepts relating construction, working and various applications of electric
machines.
Course Contents:
Electromagnetic circuits, linear machine as generator, transformer and motor,
concepts of power in linear machine
Ideal and practical transformers, equivalent circuit of transformer, per unit
system of calculation, efficiency of transformer, autotransformers, instrument
transformers, 3-phase transformers and their connections, applications
DC machines working theory, role of commutation, separately excited, shunt,
series and compounded DC Motors, Speed Control Methods, efficiency of DC
motors, applications
Separately excited, shunt, series and compounded DC generators, voltage
control of DC generators, efficiency of DC generators, applications
AC Machines, Rotating Magnetic Field, Synchronous Generators & Motors,
equivalent circuits, Phasors modeling, efficiency and applications of synchronous
machines
