INTRODUCTION

This research will tackle about the movies entitled Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief
and Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monster. Since, its all about mythology, its better to use the
mythological archetypal theory. The archetypal theory will talk about a hero, an old wise
man/woman, a trickster and terrible father/mother (can be stepfather and stepmother) in the story
which the situations revolved and make the story line brighter. The mythological theory focuses
on the adventures of the protagonist. Below is a person who gave meaning of mythological
archetypal theory.
Carl Jungs idea, Critics who examine texts from a mythological/archetypal standpoint
are looking for symbols. Jung said that an archetype is a figurethat repeats itself in the
course of history wherever creative fantasy is fully manifested. He believed that human beings
were born innately knowing certain archetypes. The evidence of this, Jung claimed, lay in the
fact that some myths are repeated throughout history in cultures and eras that could not possibly
have had any contact with one another. Many stories in Greek and Roman mythology have
counterparts in Chinese and Celtic mythology, developed long before the Greek and Roman
empires spread to Asia and northern Europe.
We choose to have the theory mythological archetypal theory for this research because it
obviously involves primarily mythology and psychological analysis that will help us in doing
this paper. Also, this type of theory is suitable for this research because this theory can really
exposed or elaborate the true meaning of it.
This will not be a research without any objective/s. So, the following are this papers
objectives: 1) To identify the major characteristics that will lead to the identification of their
archetypes, 2) To point out the significant experiences of the protagonist and 3) To familiarize
more about the mythological creatures and its vital role as well as the involvement in situations,
3) To analyze the breathtaking journey of the leading character, Percy Jackson. From the chaotic
life, he had that led to his discovery of his identity and the unveiling of his character as a
demigod. This research will aim its highest potential to give justice to these objectives.
