Course Outline 2016-2017
Course Description
The course will be a survey of the different genres in American Literature, (including various short stories, poems, speeches, etc.)
along with the writing skills necessary for college and professional life after High School. Students will continue to develop the
critical reading, writing, and thinking skills.

Extra credit assignments may be given out periodically each six weeks. Extra credit is not something that is given because
a student is doing poorly in the class. Students are expected to complete all assignments given and prepare for tests and
quizzes so that they do not need to rely on extra credit.

Make-up Policy: Applies ONLY to absences.
1. Assignments: Students are responsible for their own make-up work and must turn in all make-up assignments within 2
days. (This is per absence.)
2. Tests: If a student is absent for a test, he or she will be expected to make-up the test the day of his or her return.
3. School Absences: When a student attends a field trip, class meeting, athletic event, or any other school related activity
that results in a missed class, it is the responsibility of that student to get any assignments that will be missed before the
absence. All assignments are due the day of the students return.
Late Work Policy (applies to quiz grades and major grades ONLY):
Absolutely NO daily work will be accepted late. If a quiz or major assignment is not turned in on time, it is the students
responsibility to turn the work in and follow the late work policy. If the work is not turned in according to the English Late Work
Policy (listed below), the student will earn a zero on the missing assignment.
1 day late: - 11 points
2 days late: - 21 points
3 days late: -26 points
Over 3 days late: NO credit will be awarded and the student will receive a zero.
Test Policy: There will be two to three tests per six weeks.
Quiz Policy: There will be two to six quizzes per six weeks.
Homework Policy: 1. Assignments will be given periodically.
