Objectives
This research aims to accomplish the following objectives:

1. To develop an understanding of the foreign policy and foreign relations.

2. To cultivate in the minds of the Filipinos the importance of the said policy.
3. To inspire Filipino youth not just to comprehend the factual meaning of this
policy, but to invest and apply to their day-to-day lives, the lessons they got
in the presentation.

To achieve a substantial comprehension of this study, the following teaching

strategies/visual aids were used:

Power point presentation
Seatwork/Activity

Introduction
The early Filipinos were already in close contact with their Asian
neighbors centuries prior to the coming of the Spaniards. There existed no
political boundaries to separate the island and peoples in Southeast Asia
before the colonial period, and people felt free to identify themselves with
others (Garcia, 2010) . Nonetheless, after the Philippines has been conquest
of Spain, other countries started to gain interest of the rich lands and
resources of our country. During the war times, lack of agreements and
understanding between nations were seen. Countries were too selfish to care
and think of their conquests condition not until foreign policy has been
observed by the world.
War after war and amendments after amendments, countries started
to implement policies. Some policies might have been dissolved while some
were not since it is really needed to keep peaceful negotiations with different
countries. These policies, particularly the foreign policy, made the world
organized as it is today. Having said this, we can conclude that the
cooperation with other nations is very important and it comes with a very
crucial role of keeping peace.
Observing our world, we can see that weve followed and respected
this policy strictly and weve opened ourselves to the foreign world. Through
these agreements, we have settled the disorganization and the conflict

between nations. Thus, without these policies, our world might have been
prisons of wars and exploitations until now.

Research Summary
Foreign policy is a policy that governs relations between countries. A
countrys foreign policy is a set of goals that seek to outline how the
particular country will interact with an official basis with other countries of
the world and, to a lesser extent, on-state factors as well as an entire range
of factors relating to those other nations and economic, political, social,
military is evaluated and monitored in attempts to maximize benefits of
multilateral international cooperation. Foreign policies are designed to help
protect a countrys national interests, national security, ideological goals,
and economic prosperity. This can occur as a result of peaceful cooperation
with other nations, not through aggression, war and exploitation.
National security
The protection and strengthening of the countrys national security and
territorial integrity are crucial to national survival. A countrys national
security cannot be compromised and must be safeguarded at all times and
at all cost. The Philippines, being a peace-loving country that harbors no
hostility or offensive intent towards any country, firmly believes that
diplomacy should be the first line of defense and that cooperation with
others is the principal basis of a nations external security.
It is a form this perspective that the Philippines endeavors to maintain
a self-reliant, well-equipped, and well-trained defense establishment to

attend to the countrys external defense requirements. It is also in this

context that defense cooperation with other countries is considered
important. The government strategy to strengthen national security through
foreign policy is pursued along the following lines:

Enhancing friendly relations and forging strategic alliances with other

countries
Promoting regional peace and stability through established and new

mechanisms; and
Fostering global accords that advance Philippine national security

Economic Diplomacy
The Philippines employs various measures of economic diplomacy, at
the bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels, in pursuit of its goals of
sustainable development and growth with social equity. The government has
adopted the country-team approach to coordinate the efforts of the various
national sectors and agencies of government in areas of work, which include
the following: promotion of trade in goods and services, investment
promotion, tourism promotion, sourcing of official development assistance,
negotiation of debt repayment or relief, facilitation of overseas employment,
and economic intelligence gathering.
Assistance to Nationals
Migration from developing countries has been a major trend in
Philippine experience over the last four decades, and this process has caused

a diaspora of some eight million Filipinos to about 180 countries and

territories around the world. Thus, the assistance, protection, and promotion
of the welfare of the Filipinos overseas is the third pillar of Philippine foreign
policy.
As Philippine missions abroad assist Filipino nationals overseas, the
Philippine government seeks to conclude bilateral and multilateral
arrangements for the protection and welfare of the Filipino workers,especially
in terms of improved and humane working conditions, security ,appropriate
compensation, and equitable benefits.
Multilateral Diplomacy
The Philippines places great emphasis on the need for collective action
among states in dealing with serious problems confronting mankind, as most
of these problems, are transnational in scope. International and regional
organizations and associations such as the United Nations system , ASEAN
and its various dialogue relationships,APEC,ASEM, and the ASEAN
parliamentary organization are indispensable for a where the collective will
of states find expression. Participation in this multilateral machanisms helps
the Philippines achieve its foreign policy objectives.

Conclusion
Our country might have been under some of foreign nations conquest,
despite that, we were still able to fight for our rights and stand on our own. It
has already been a long time since we have not depended on other country
and now we continue to strive for its development. Today, the conduct of the
Philippine external relations continues to evolve as it adapts to the worlds
changing circumstances while remaining firm on the constant of any foreign
policy. Now that we have been working this out in our country, we have a lot
more reason to progress. There is no more reason left for us not to take a
step up and not bring back our countrys life. Filipinos must have more
confidence to make our country known.
If the Philippines is to move forward, we must all put together in the
quest for the enduring aspirations for peace, prosperity and progress.
