OnFriday,theTribefiledcourtdocumentsidentifyingtheareaashometosignificantNativeartifactsandsacredsites.
Thisdemolitionisdevastating,Archambaultsaid.Thesegroundsaretherestingplacesofourancestors.Theancientcairnsand
stoneprayerringstherecannotbereplaced.Inoneday,oursacredlandhasbeenturnedintohollowground.
Constructioncrewsremovedtopsoilacrossanareaabout150feetwidestretchingfortwomiles,northwestoftheconfluenceofthe
CannonBallandMissouriRivers.
Isurveyedthislandandweconfirmedmultiplegravesandspecificprayersites,saidTimMentz,theStandingRockSiouxsformer
tribalhistoricpreservationofficer.Portions,andpossiblycompletesites,havebeentakenoutentirely.
ThousandsofpeoplefromacrosstheUnitedStateshavejoinedtheStandingRockSiouxtoprotestEnergyTransferPartners
buildingofthe1,200mileDakotaAccessPipeline.Ifbuilt,ahalfmillionbarrelsofcrudeoilwouldpassthroughthelinedaily.
TheStandingRockSiouxhavefiledsuitinU.S.DistrictCourtfortheDistrictofColumbiatostopconstruction.TheTribesaysitwas
notproperlyconsultedbeforetheU.S.ArmyCorpsofEngineersfasttrackedconstructionapproval.
