HOW DOES IQST FUNCTION

There is an organizational structure in the company where the functions are
uniformly distributed among the heads and there are the verticals which
govern the system.
There are mainly four verticals which are as follows:
EMPLOYABILITY SKILL TRAINING: The soft skills and functional skills of
the individuals are taken care of in this vertical. Employability skills are
general skills that are needed to get most jobs, but they also help you to stay
in a job and work your way to the top.
CORPORATE SKILL TRAINING: The primary role of corporate training is to
ensure that an employee has the knowledge and skills to undertake a
specific operation to enable an organization to continue to operate.
Fundamentally, corporate training is based on knowledge transfer, with an
instructor teaching or demonstrating a particular function and the employees
learning and demonstrating whether they can apply what they have learnt to
a particular operation. The types of corporate training are : On the job
training, Corporate Universities, External learning and E Learning.
PLACEMENT: IQST has placed over 15,000 candidates in the last 5 years.
We do not make false promises of placing 200 students if there are 150
6

vacancies. Instead, we take 100 students and help them avail better
oppurtunities so that they get the right job which they deserve. We have tieups with over 200 reputed companies all over India for providing jobs with all
statutory compliances for our students.
NSDC PROJECT: The NATIONAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (NSDC)
is a scheme of the Government of India and Ministry of Finance. Its main
focus is on developing the skills of the youth and also focuses on the
interests of an individual. The Sector Skill Council is the authority responsible
for designing the curriculum for the individuals after assessing the needs and
demands of the market. IQST is the East and North East partner of NSDC.
When a student passes the exam, he is given two certificates, one which is
NSDC and IQST joint and the other one is of the Sector Skill Council which is
a huge advantage for the student.

OBJECTIVES OF MY S.I.P
The main objective of my S.I.P was to assess the training and development
needs of various organizations. The main motive of the project was to find
out how and what kind of training is done in the corporate houses and in
various other sectors of the industry.
A survey was conducted with the help of questionnaire and visiting various
companies. The purpose was to fill up the questionnaire by the HR of the
visited companies so as to get a clear and a broad idea about the Training &
Development of that particular company.
Corporate Training involves formal or informal education programs designed
to improve the skills of executives or workers. It can take the form of
teaching employees to fit into a new job, or it can be designed to improve
the skills of employees who are already on the job. The benefits they expect
to achieve commonly include increased revenues produced by more highly
trained or motivated employees along with improvements in employee
recruitment and retention.
The quality of employees and their development through training and
education are major factors in determining long-term profitability of a small
business. If good employees are hired and kept, It is good policy to invest in
the development of their skills, so they can increase their productivity.
Training often is considered for new employees only. This is a mistake
because ongoing training for current employees helps them adjust to rapidly
changing job requirements. There are many companies which refer to
corporate training with other terms, including Employee Development,
Human Resource Development, Learning and Development or Training and
Development.
The questionnaire revolved around these areas which the interviewee had to
answer during the assessment of their training and development needs.

LEARNINGS DURING THE PROJECT

Doing my internship from IQST was a great experience. I got a lot of ideas,
techniques to deal with situations and different kinds of people, whether it
was at the work place or the market place.
My job during the S.I.P was to meet the HRs of various companies and
discuss with them regarding their Training and Development needs and what
kind of training do they provide to their employees.
What I learnt during this phase was different companies have different needs
which have to be analyzed so that the employees are benefitted by those
programs. Training and Development are two different things because
training refers to the process of imparting specific skills and Development
refers to the learning opportunities designed to help the employees grow. So
it depends which one is apt for which level of employees in an organization
One thing which I noticed when I asked about the reason for providing
training to the employees is almost all the HRs replied that Training and
Development offer competitive advantage to a firm by removing the
performance deficiencies; making employees stay long ; minimizing
accidents, scrap and damage; and meeting future employee needs. Training
contributes to employee stability in atleast two ways. Employees become
more efficient after undergoing training so in turn they contribute more to
the growth of the firm. Growth renders stability to the work force. Further,
trained employees tend to stay with the company and they seldom leave the
company. Training also makes the employees versatile in operations.
Flexibility is also ensured.
Moreover, it depends upon the company what kind of training would they
prefer. If it is a BPO, they would prefer behavioural training; if it is a
manufacturing company, they would stress upon technical training; if it is a
software company they would prefer Just In Time training and so on and so
forth.
The big companies have their own Training and Development cells and their
own trainers who train the employees as and when required and they usually
do not outsource while the medium companies usually have trainers but they
9

also outsource training institutes for training the employees and the small
companies generally do not have any such cells for training the employees
because many do not have sufficient monetary funds while others do not feel
the need of doing any such kinds of programs for the employees. They have
this notion that the employees will learn their job while working and will be
well versed so no additional training is required at all. Some companies do
not even have HR or Administration departments as such so they do not
even know that training is required for the employees.

Thus to summarize what I learnt is:

10

The market place is very different from the class room session. The
ground reality is very tough to be in.

Meetings are the best place to discuss various ideas and good
brainstorming session leads to creative and innovative ideas.

Listening is the most important tool for personal and organizational

success.

Adaptability is the most important thing in any organization. We need

to adapt to our surroundings very quickly and efficiently to get optimal
results.

Patience is the key to achieving what one wants. It helps at the end of
the day
