HOME ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Write a brief report specifying and explaining at least 5 different measures

you could take to improve the energy efficiency in an Ecuadorian home.
The next measures to save energy are:
1)

Change the light bulbs: Changing incandescent bulbs with fluorescent

or LED bulbs is an excellent measure, as the first type of bulb wasted
much of the energy consumed in heat, this it causes a great waste of
energy that can be saved between 70 and 80% of power consumption.
Another measure in relation to this issue is to reduce the number of
rooms with lights especially at peak hour residential consumption, this
is about from 6:00 pm to 9:00 p. m.

2) A common error to open the fridge is the number of times it is done

during the day for example when cooking and remove the ingredients,
it isn't done in a planned manner if not according to what is needs at
that moment, besides, there are times that the door remains open for a
long time just to get ice in it or something else, then the more times
you open the refrigerator, the time is greater and therefore the ignition
cycle will be higher and require greater Energy. Therefore it was
recommended to reduce time, for this it is necessary to organize
products and food that you're going to use.
3) Check for air leaks in windows or door: It is important to carry out an
good inspection in the windows to check if there are or not air leaks
because it is considered one of the major sources of heat loss, for
example in an air conditioning system if there is air leak, the system
will not cover with all demand, therefore the system is inadequate by
their high energy consumption in trying to extract all the heat load.
The same happens in a heating system.
4)

Reduce the consumption of "vampire power": This is achieved by

disconnecting appliances and devices. Even when the devices are
shutdowns can spend on average up to 1.6 kilowatts per day, this
represent between 5% and 10% of energy consumption.

5)

Promote the use of renewable energy can reduce electric power

consumption because it produce its own energy. If you have an outdoor

space with good insolation as a roof terrace is recommended to install

photovoltaic solar panels but if you live in a home where the wind
blows more often the implementation of mini wind is a great option.
