The benefits of school uniforms are numerous, and many schools nationwide have adopted a
uniform policy in public, private and parochial settings. Not only do school uniforms help reduce
the cost of a growing child's school wardrobe, but uniforms assist with discipline and behavioral
issues.
1. History
o
School uniforms were widely used in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Requiring
uniforms has drawn renewed interest in the past couple decades.

Behavior
o
School uniforms may improve student behavior and conduct by reinforcing the
academic setting.
Socialization
o
Cost
o
Uniforms can save parents money by lessening the pressure on students to have
expensive clothes to keep up with fashion.
1. Equality
o
One argument made by advocates of school uniforms is that having students dress
alike minimizes conflicts based on economic differences. When students all dress
in uniform, there can be no conspicuous consumption of designer products.
Visible socio-economic differences are minimized by school uniforms. Advocates
also argue that visual equality leads to fewer gang and clique conflicts because
members can't wear their group's colors or symbols.
Safety
o
Advocates of school uniforms say that having students dress alike makes it easier
for educators to keep the school safe. Since the student body is dressed in
uniforms, outsiders wearing their own clothes are more visible. Identifying
potentially threatening outsiders or interlopers becomes easier.

Loss of Individuality
o
Those opposed to school uniforms often cite the loss of individuality as a key
problem of school uniforms. When wearing a uniform, the student loses the
ability to visually express individual identity through clothing. This may hinder
the student's development of individual identity and make him feel he has lost a
certain measure of choice and freedom.
Cost
o
Another major problem of school uniforms is the cost. School uniforms are
usually expensive, and while advocates argue that wearing a uniform every day
will diminish the cost of clothing one's children, some uniforms may increase the
expense. Students do not wear their uniforms after school hours or on weekends,
so parents still need to buy play clothes and dressy clothes. Moreover, when
uniforms rip, stain, discolor or are outgrown, they are costly to replace.
of you without dissing themselves in the process. Because kids who wear uniforms don't have to
worry about what people are saying about their outfit, they can focus more on their studies and
schoolwork.
As you can see, there are many reasons that students should wear uniforms to school. Many
people think that uniforms limit self-expression through clothing choices, but they forgot that
school isn't a fashion show. Uniforms don't promote cliques based on your clothes, they allow
students to focus on their studies and not what they put on in the morning, and it has been proven
that students that wear uniforms score higher on tests than those who go to school dressed in the
latest fashion trends. I think that because of these reasons, students should wear uniforms in
school.
choice of suit, shirt, shoes, and tie as long as they are within a specific range of colors.
I must conclude that having uniforms in public schools is beneficial to all involved, and does not
in any way violate students' right to free expression when properly implemented.
I'm not too sure it is persuasive enough in our school we have something like
FARTERS( I know its weird but it stands for something and it helps to write a good
persuasive essay)
F- Facts- Include some facts in your persuasive essay, you could write " 60% of
student in my school disagree with school unifroms, but I will prove some points
that will make that number decrease."
A- Anecdote- This is when you write a personal story or something that happened to
a friend, like telling a story or describing what a student might have said to you
about uniform
R- Rhetorical questions- This is when you ask questions to make the audience think,
I would use these in the beginning and/or the end.
T- Triplets- This is when you might sya words or sentences 3 time eg, proffesional,
knowledgable and successful these are some of the qualities we want to achieve
and uniforms can help us achieve our goals in life"
E- Emotive language- Here you use words that are emotional in a positive or
negative way, you can use an online thesaurus to find better words that mean the
same thing
R- Repitition- When you repeat words or sentences
S- Statistics- These also mean facts but explained in more detail about how the
research might have been done.
I hope this helps, please have a look at mine!
Even though many people think that wearing a uniform limits a student's right to
express themselves, I think that schools should enforce them because they don't
promote cliques based on your clothes.---Start a new sentence here, as it was too
long.--- They allow students to focus on their studies and not what they put on in
the morning, and it has been proven that students who wear uniforms score higher
on tests than those who go to school dressed in the latest fashion trends.
All of this drama could've been avoided by not having dress down days, and always
having the uniform on.
This is because uniforms are equalizers, and they don't allow for cliques and groups
to be started, based on clothing.
I noticed that during those dress down days when we were out of the uniform, kids
had a lot of trouble focusing on what we were being taught.
Studies have shown that students who wear uniforms score higher on standardized
tests than those who wear whatever they want to school.---I think you already said
this!
This is because fashion in a teens mind is a huge distraction, not to mention all the
worries and stress that come with it, and when you take all that away and make
everyone look the same, students aren't as concerned with what they look like
compared to other people.

I used to have to wear a uniform and kind of hated it, but your essay makes perfect
sense, and looking back, it was not so bad!
students wear uniforms. We all have to wear uniforms in order to enter the school,
especially in a private school, a senior from El Salvador said. There are many rules
for school uniforms. For example they cannot be too baggy. They can be loose but
not too much! You have to wear black shoes and white shirts; your hair has to be
short and there are special colors for every different school. The bad thing is that
the school does not pay for the uniforms. You have to buy them with your money.
Many people like IDs better than uniforms. I prefer to wear IDs more than from
uniforms because in my country we used both IDs and uniforms, Noeliza Jama said.
She said it is better to wear something that you can change if you dont like it than
wear something like a uniform that you cant change whenever you want.
Miss Matthews, the teacher of ESOL 5 students, thinks IDs are better than
uniforms. She thinks that the students should have individuality to wear whatever
they want. It is easier to recognize the students when you see them, she said. She
thinks that if they are wearing uniforms, they all look the same, especially from far
away.
