People and Nature
Life is possible due to the balance existing in nature as it enables
water to be in the form as we see and savor. In this sense, our life is
connected to nature, and we should cherish and protect it. However, (in
American context) people think differently about this matter. They all
focus too much on economic growth, expansion, technological
advancement, and other things which in the process also cause harm to
the nature. Take fossil fuel and oils, for example. We have enormously
exploit, burn, and utilize it in all of our everyday vehicles and business
operations. This has caused emission of carbon dioxide and air pollution
to soar up in recent years. In other sector, we have also excessively cut
down our forests to open up lands for development. We have not
carefully thought that this would cause irregularity in rain patterns,
failure of crops, and river flow to stop. Then, as we dive into ocean
context, we can also see that people have been overexploiting its
resources, not realizing that half of them would be thrown away. To top it
all, there is also our industrial practices which have generated tons of
harmful wastes and environmental emissions. As parts of them are
disposed carelessly into the air, water, land, and any other places we
desire, outbreak of new diseases, such as cancers in infants, respiratory
problems, ashtma, and childhood diabetes has taken death tolls on us.
These human misconducts have lead to the emergence of a common,
overused term of global warming or the heating of the earths
temperature.
Global Warming
Nowadays, our earths temperature has been the highest ever in
the history. One impact it has caused is the melting of Arctic regions
which should have been the cooling agents of our earth. This shows that
the earth cannot resist the temperature rise and thus the earth will keep
warming up. The second and widespread impact is climate change. It has
extensive effects on ocean current, weather patterns, and other nature
aspects. In the case of ocean, its temperature has risen. Should the
temperature rise further to a certain point, the ocean surface can be
stagnant and thus killing off the whole organisms living in the ocean. In

addition, as weather patterns change, natural disasters such as flooding,

storm, and drought rampant on earth.
Our Responses
One of the most influential and powerful agent that can contribute
in tackling this critical issue is politicians. However, in US context, they
can do nothing as fossil fuel industry development has bigger claims on
them. The lack of authority to put up environmental policies has also
handicapped our chance on tackling the issue.
In another side, economists, who can also help contribute on taking
measures, also overlook natures voice calling upon them. They stuck in
the notion of that business and growth are the means of achieving
quality of life. This is such a shame as nature has done so much for them
especially in providing free energy sourcessun, wind, and watermuch
more than what we can generate.
Then, there is us, people who also stuck in the culture of working and
spending, while also focusing only on things around us.
The Solution
To address this issue, we have to find a way to integrate both
technological advancements and nature to achieve sustainability. In this
case, we need to redesign our infrastructures and businesses so that
they applie cradle-to-cradle principle of the capability to sustain in the
long run, not leaving wastes in the process.
Then, we need a strong leadership to show people the way and drive
them towards accomplishment. In this case, we have to also incentivise
environmental measures and punish actions that contribute to global
warming and environmental destruction in our society. This way, people
will be more willing and driven to converge in this very purpose.
Next, we need to work collaboratively with each other for this purpose to
also demonstrate to our leaders that we also do care. Only when leaders
coming together with people will the goal be achieved. It is really a backbreaking task in which awareness and conscience has to be developed in
the societies for the very survival of mankind in the future.
Conclusion
We have severely damaged the earths biosphere through our own
actions, but we all can join hands not to further damage it in the future.
Unless we do and start maintaining good balance with nature, we may be
on the brink of extinction.

Favorite Scene
My favorite scene in the movie is (01:13:56) to (01:14:16) when it
is shown that penguins, from cardboard boxes, are released to the sea.
There, they all dash to the sea water, happily going to the place where
they really belong. I love this scene as it makes me realize how love for
naturepenguinscan make me feel joyful and relieved. In addition, it

also shows me just how pretty and right it is when things are (in positive
meaning) where they should be, i.e. the penguins which should be in the
sea. This, I think, is also one of the forms of balance we need to maintain
so that sustainability will be secured.
