A New Backbone
August 14-August 20

Father God,
Thank you for loving me and taking care of me. Bless my church, Pastor Ron and
his family. Bless my teachers for teaching me Your Word. I believe your love is
flowing through me to other people. Help me to obey my parents so things will go
well with me and I will live a long life on the earth. I will tell how great You are and
how much I love You. I thank You that by Jesus stripes I am healed in my body and
my soul.
In Jesus name, Amen

I, being filled with the Holy Spirit speak the Word of God with
boldness.
Acts 4:31
God has given me Holy Spirit to be my comforter and stay with me
forever.
John 14:16
I pray for the peace of Jerusalem that they may love You and prosper.
Psalms 122:6

The Holy Spirit living inside us gives us boldness to stand up against sin
in the world.

Acts 4:31, And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they
spoke the Word of God with boldness.

Jesus disciples and friends were confused when He let the Roman
soldiers take Him away from them. They were upset that He did not
try to stop them and wouldnt even let Peter fight them. They couldnt
understand. Jesus had been teaching them and telling them that He
was the Messiah, the One who would deliver them and be their new
king. They had believed that He was going to take over the rulers of
the earth and set up His Kingdom right here. His disciples were upset
and confused by the way Jesus was acting. Peter secretly followed the
soldiers as they took Jesus to be questioned. He was in the court yard
watching, wondering why Jesus would let this happen. He had seen
Jesus do so many miracles for other people. Why wouldnt He rescue
Himself from these soldiers? Even so, Peter and all the disciples were
afraid now. They had been brave when Jesus was with them, but seeing
Jesus beaten and then crucified crushed their hopes of the Kingdom
Jesus had taught about.
Everything changed only 3 days later as Jesus was raised from the dead
and appeared to Peter and over 500 other believers. For 40 days Jesus
walked with them and talked to them until on the 40th day He left
them by ascending up into the sky before their eyes! But not before
He gave them the last instructions. He said they should go to Jerusalem
and wait because His Father was sending the Holy Spirit to come and
live inside of them. He would give them power to be bold witnesses.
On the day of Pentecost (exactly 50 days after Jesus had risen from the
grave) the Holy Spirit appeared to 120 believers who had obeyed Jesus
command and had gathered in the Upper Room in Jerusalem for the
celebration of Pentecost. All 120 of the believers received the promise
of the Holy Spirit. They were the very first believers to be filled with
the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues.
