SESSION 12
In a small town, there lived a wealthy merchant. He was very kind and charitable. He had a son, who had
unfortunately fallen into a bad company. Many times the merchant advised his son to stay away from the bad
company, but all in vain
One day, a great saint came to the town. The merchant went to the saint, sought his blessings and said, My spoilt
son is causing me a lot of worry. Please help me."
After few minutes of contemplation, the saint replied, Send your son to my Ashram tomorrow morning. I will talk to
him."
Next morning, the merchant sent his son to the Ashram of the saint. There the saint asked the son to pluck a flower
of rose from the garden of the Ashram. He plucked a rose. Then the saint asked the boy, "Smell it and feel its
fragrance, my son." The boy did so. Then saint showed the boy a sack of wheat and said, Keep the rose near the
sack." The boy followed the instructions.
After an hour, the saint asked the boy to smell the rose again. How does it smell now?" the saint asked the boy. The
boy smelt the rose and said, It smells as good as before." Then the saint said, Hmm! Now keep the rose near this
sack of onions." The boy did so.
After an hour, the saint asked the boy to smell the rose again. Is there any change in the fragrance?" the saint
asked the boy. No. it smells as fresh as before," replied the boy.
Then the saint said, My son, you should be like this rose, giving the fragrance to everyone but at the same time not
letting the bad smell from others rub on to you. Your good qualities are your strength. You should not lose them in
bad company."
The boy understood the saints words and wisdom. I am grateful to you, O Saint, for opening my eyes," said the
merchants son.
From that day onwards, he was honest and charitable like his cultured father.

SESSION 13
Long ago there lived a merchant. He used to deal in salt. He had a donkey to carry load. He had to cross a
river to go to the neighboring village.
Once his donkey fell into the stream and much of the salt was dissolved in water. The donkey easily
crossed the river due to the light weight of salt on his back. The donkey was happy.
On his next trip, the donkey knowingly fell into the river. The merchant suspected the animal's intention.
On the next day too, the donkey intentionally repeated the same trick. His master was now sure about
the donkey's evil intention.
The next day, the merchant loaded the donkey with a lot of cotton. The donkey repeated the same trick.
He fell into the river. But this time his load became very heavy.
It was very tiring for him to move on with the heavy load. The donkey now realized his mistake. He
stopped falling down into the river any more.
He thought that it was not good to play tricks. The merchant had taught the donkey a good lesson.
