The Many Colors of Judgment

by Chiara Marrapodi
Judgment is pervasive.

It colors the way we view

ourselves, the way we view the surrounding world and in our

labeled descriptions of what we think we sense. Judgment
seems to be the human condition.
the world.

The human way of viewing

It is what we use each day to make decisions

about our lives.

It is also what we use to find meaning, to

interpret the world based on our belief system and our past
experiences.

But the more I think about this the more it

seems to me that when we judge something, someone or an

experience through the lens that we have created can we say
it is real and true?
What is true and what is real?
different things.

Truth may mean many

The interpretation of our truth is a sum of

the crystalized mask of beliefs we have gathered over our

experiential years.

This is the lens with which we view the

outer world.

It is the interface between the inner and the

outer world.

Essentially, it is our filter.

How we filter

depends on what we have experienced before.

that we are living in our past?
case.

Does this mean

To me this would be the

We are allowing our past experiences which have

become crystalized automata (automatic programs) to become

sentinels for our present and in so doing it becomes our

future.
The question is how does this relate to how we see the
world?

If I am to take a flower and judge it as beautiful

how would that be different to if I judged it to be

unattractive?

Research shows that any experiment is

influenced by the observer therefore this would suggest that

our interaction with living beings whether large or small,
plant or animal, is bi-directional (both sides are affected).
As I observe the flower I am equally being observed as I
judge the flower it is responding to my observation.
is so then what does a judgment do to ourselves?
it do to another?

powerful.

If this
What does

And what does it do in the great sea of

Its powerful isnt it?

Yes, thought is

It is so powerful that we can talk ourselves into

believing just about anything.

This has been shown many,

many times in the examples of people overcoming the most

difficult of situations.

And no it is not about positive

thinking, it is more about an adjustment of belief systems, of

the lens through which we view the world.
But this is not the end of the story.
tales to be told.

There are multiple

For as we project our beliefs upon that

which we see, we are projecting our own reality upon another

living being; animal, plant or human.

We are limiting their

capacity, their ability and their beingness.

We are projecting

our sense of self, our sense of what reality is upon another

being and drawing them into the limits we have set for
ourselves.

These are all projections of the inner self upon

the outer world.

As we reflect upon this what does it say

about the responsibility we have towards ourselves and others

as we go about being human?

Every thought and word is

therefore responsible for either uplifting or deflating ourselves

and those around us.

Therefore, it can allow a being to be

the best they can be in any situation or it can place them in

box we have created for them based on our own limitations.
This seems absurd doesnt it?

But it is so.

If we look at young children and animals they are

malleable beings.

The ego is still developing in very young

children and therefore not defined.

ego in the same way humans do.

And animals do not have

What does this say about

how we treat each other and other living beings around us?
Animals are chastised, controlled and made to conform to the
whims of the limited human understanding of reality.

They

are made to conform to the reality that humans impose upon

them for their own pleasures rather than any considerations
from the animals species specific perspective.

Often we judge

an animal as disrespectful with no understanding of the

associations, feelings and thoughts this individual has
experienced at the hands of man.

These are the crystalized

impressions they have created over time relating to their

animal-human interactions.

These associations are not merely

mental correlations, they are connected to body memory thus

they are real feelings and images; re-experienced over and
over again.

This repetition creates stunted growth (cognitive

and physical), a reduced ability to enjoy activities and eroded

hope.

Until the animal has no choice but to shut itself down

or dissociate out of the body.

conscious creatures are real.

The judgments placed upon

These conscious beings feel

them and experience them far more deeply than a thinking

human with layers of beliefs manipulated by their ego self.
Animals feel this in its raw state and the mis-interpretations
based on limited human thinking creates barriers which are
bi-directional.

These illusory barriers serve little for both

the human and animal.

If anything the suffering of the

human is projected on to the animal and thus shared without

their consent.

Animals are such gracious beings in their

acceptance without choice arent they?

What if there is another way?

A way to commune

without expectation, without needing a programmed response,

without thought projection, without pre-conceived desires,
ideas, techniques and secondhand beliefs.
ourselves to be in the moment?

What if we allowed

What if we let go of

preconceived anything, breathed and allowed ourselves to taste

the sweet nectar the way nature offers it?

What if?

It is

easy to conceptualize what ifs.

of reality that have not become.

Indeed, they are potentials

These are not enough, they

are not enough.

Next time you smell a flower notice the thoughts welling
up inside you, the labels you bring and the feelings that
arise.

For these are momentary.

As you begin to process

this experience notice and become aware of the origins of

these thoughts and beliefs.

How are these related to

projections you have about yourself, the world around you and
the secondhand belief system you inherited?
float away.

Then let them

Breathe them out and close your eyes.

Now

allow the flower to speak its own truth and share the sweet
nectar of life through its eyes and allow it to bloom.
do you see?

What do you feel?

What

What do you sense?

Next time you are with an animal notice the thoughts

welling up inside you, the labels you bring and the feelings
that arise based on this beings behavior. As you begin to
process this experience notice and become aware of the
origins of these thoughts and second hand beliefs you have
inherited.

Breathe in deeply and close your eyes.

When you

open them look into the eyes of the animal and let this being
speak to you from one heart to another.
you their own story.

Let this being tell

Now you are creating a connection.

Now you are in the present moment.

Now you are honoring

this being, you are honoring yourself.

Judgment has many colors, but only one outcome.

It

limits you and it limits that over which it is projected.

It

limits your reality and the reality of others.

Drop the judgment and you will notice your expansion.
Drop the judgment and you will notice the expansion of
those around you.
Drop the judgment and you will notice your world
expanding.
The greatest gift is allowing a being to show you their
actual selves.
The greatest gift is allowing you to experience your
actual self.
