Resumen: Se examinan los patrones del uso del tiempo en Lima

Metropolitana y sus determinantes sobre la base de la Encuesta Nacional

de Usos del Tiempo. Se reconocen tres patrones centrales: el de los
trabajadores adultos, el de las mujeres dedicadas al hogar y el de los
varones solteros. Se identifica que el tiempo de trabajo es afectado
principalmente por el nivel de ingresos y la edad, el tiempo de transporte
por la ocupacin principal y el tiempo libre por la edad. Se concluye que el
transporte pblico afecta la gestin del tiempo de la poblacin, pero
tambin que sta invierte el tiempo extra-laboral en actividades que no
implican necesariamente descanso o desarrollo cultural debido a otras
externalidades distintas del transporte. El contraste entre los resultados y
la literatura inherente revela similitudes, pero tambin diferencias.

The study examines the patterns of use of time in Metropolitan Lima and
its deciding factors, based on the National Time Use Survey. Three main
use patterns are recognized: adult workers, women devoted to household
chores and single men. It is proven that work time is affected mainly by
income level and age, travel time by main occupation, and free time by age.
It is concluded that public transport affects adversely the population time
management, but that it spends time outside of work in activities that do
not necessarily imply rest or cultural development, because of other than
transport externalities. The contrast between the results with the literature
on the topic reveals a lot of similarities but also differences.
