GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Image processing has found applications in many areas from medical imaging to computer
graphics. The application fields presented during the course are varied, among others: Medical
Imaging, Video surveillance, Computer Graphics, Video Compression, Industrial Inspection,
Multimedia, Human Computer Interfaces and Multimodal Signal Processing.
This course focuses image processing and its application areas. In this course, you will learn the
fundamental concepts of visual perception and image acquisition, basic techniques of image
manipulation, segmentation, coding, and an introduction to understanding of pattern recognition
and computer vision.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will acquire the mathematical and
algorithmic tools necessary to address the majority of image processing and vision applications,
seizing a rigorous approach to the methods used to conceive and develop reliable and effective
solutions.
