MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE FOR ELCTRICAL EQUIPMENT

SECTION 01 DRY TRANSFORMER


A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Note the condition of following and correct if necessary: bushings, insulators,
paint, connections, fans and controls, alarm circuit, heaters, air filters, windings
and earthing equipment.
3. Clean any loose debris and dust from around the windings, core frames, bus
bars, insulators, and other surfaces within the enclosure.
4. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
5. Continuity test for alarm and control circuit by short circuit at the ends and
measure the continuity at other ends.
6. Tighten the main connections at LV/MV sides, tap connections, earthing
connections by torque wrench and control circuit terminators.
B Standard Test
1. Insulation test for LV/MV, LV/Earthing, MV/Earthing by megger.
C Optional Test
1. Dielectric test at MV side.
2. Earthing resistance test.
3. Ratio test on present tap changer.
4. Winding resistance test for LV/MV side on present tap changer.
5. Perform thermal graph scanning. This will be conducted before shutdown for
maintenance.

SECTION 02 OIL TRANSFORMER


A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Note the condition of the following and correct if necessary: bushings, insulators,
paint, connections, fans & controls, alarm circuits, load-tap-changer, gas
regulator, oil level and leakage, and earthing equipment.
3. Clean any loose debris and dust from around the coils, core frames, bus bars,
insulators, and other surfaces within the enclosure.
4. Take oil samples for laboratory analysis if requested.
5. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
6. Continuity test for alarm and control circuit by short circuit at the ends and
measure the continuity at other ends.
7. Tighten the main connections at LV/MV sides, earthing connections by torque
wrench and control circuit terminators.
B Standard Test
1. Insulation test for LV/MV, LV/Earthing, MV/Earthing by megger.
C Optional Test
1. Dielectric test.
2. Earthing resistance test.
3. Ratio test on present tap changer.
4. Winding resistance test for LV/MV side on present tap changer.

SECTION 03 MEDIUM VOLTAGE SWITCHBOARD


A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Note the condition of the following and clean and/or correct if necessary:
structure, paint, doors & covers, racking mechanisms, key interlocks, cable
connections, bus connections, bus supports, bus insulation, primary insulation,
racking shutters, primary disconnects, secondary disconnects, CTs, VTs, wiring &
control components, metering devices, protective devices, indicators, lighting,
filter and vents, and earthing.
3. Tighten main earthing connections, bus connections by torque wrench and wiring
control/metering if necessary.
4. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
5. Perform mechanical operation tests for MCB, selection switches, push buttons
and fuse switches.
6. Perform mechanical operation test for disconnector switch, earthing switch.
7. Perform the continuity test for all fuses.
8. Check all interlocking system for correct operation and sequencing, and key
distribution if applicable.
9. Test the racking safety interlock
10. Resistance measure for the heater.
11. Function test for trip circuit of breakers by short circuit.
12. Perform electrical operation test for breaker on local/remote mode if available.
B Standard Test
1. Insulation resistance test on power circuit, phase to phase and phase to earth by
megger.
2. Continuity resistance test of current circuit & voltage circuit.
3. Insulation resistance test on control circuit.
C Optional Test
1. Earthing resistance test.
2. Dielectric test for busbar.

SECTION 04 MEDIUM VOLTAGE CIRCUIT BREAKER/CONTACTOR


DRAWABLE TYPE
A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Mechanical system: Note the condition of operation mechanism in term of wear,
tear and adjustment.
3. Primary current path: Note the condition of the main contacts, connections,
primary disconnects and pivot point lubrication.
4. Primary insulation system: Note the condition of the main insulation and
bushings.
5. Control system: Note the condition of the control wiring, all coils, charging motor,
auxiliary relays, switches and secondary disconnects
6. Cleaning: Clean all primary insulation, the mechanism and all control contacts.
7. Lubrication: Re-lubricate for mechanical system where applicable (no
disassembly requested). Further lubrication of mechanical of system only be
done as needed and get approval from owner.
8. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
9. Operation function: Note the operation of charging, on, off, reset, rack in, and
rack out.
B Standard Test
1. Test the electrical operation of charging motor, closing coil, opening coil and trip
circuit.
2. Insulation resistance test for primary insulation by megger.
3. Insulation resistance test on the control circuit by megger.
C Optional Test
1. Measure the contact resistance of primary current path.
2. Dielectric test on the power circuit.

SECTION 05 LOW VOLTAGE SWITCHBOARD


A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Note the condition of the following and clean and/or correct if necessary:
structure, paint, doors & covers, racking mechanisms, key interlocks, cable
connections, bus connections, bus supports, bus insulation, primary insulation,
racking shutters, primary disconnects, secondary disconnects, CTs, VTs, wiring &
control components, metering devices, protective devices, indicators, lighting,
filter and vents, and earthing
3. Tighten main earthing connections, bus connections and wiring control/metering
if necessary.
4. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
5. Perform mechanical operation tests for all MCB, MCCB and ACB, selection
switches, push buttons and switches.
6. Perform the continuity test for all fuses.
7. Check all interlocking system for correct operation and sequencing, and key
distribution if applicable.
8. Test the racking safety interlock if any.
9. Resistance test for the heater by measure its resistance.
10. Function test for protective devices by test button if applicable.
11. Perform electrical operation test for applicable equipments on local/remote
mode.
B Standard Test
1. Insulation resistance test on each power circuit, phase to phase and phase to
earth.
2. Insulation resistance test on control circuit.
3. Continuity resistance test of current circuit & voltage circuit..
C Optional Test
1. Earthing resistance test.
2. Perform thermal graph scanning for switchboard. This will be conducted before
shutdown for maintenance.

SECTION 06 LOW VOLTAGE AIR CIRCUIT BREAKER DRAWABLE TYPE


MOULD CASE CIRCUIT BREAKER DRAWABLE TYPE
A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Mechanical system: Note the condition of operation mechanism in term of wear,
lubrication, cleanliness and adjustment.
3. Primary current path: Note the condition of the main contacts, connections,
primary disconnects, pivot point lubrication and arc interruption system.
4. Primary insulation system: Note the condition of the main insulation, barriers,
safety shutter.
5. Cleaning: Clean all primary insulation, the mechanism, all main contacts, arcing
contacts and all control contacts.
6. Lubrication: Re-lubricate for mechanical system where applicable (no
disassembly requested). Further lubrication of mechanical of system only be
done as needed and get approval from owner.
7. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
8. Operation function: Note the operation of charging, on, off, reset, rack in, and
rack out.
9. Control system: Note the condition of the control wiring, all coils, charging motor.
B Standard Test
1. Test the electronic trip unit by test kit: Only apply for Merlin Gerin products
equipped with electronic trip unit.
2. Test the electrical operation of charging motor, closing coil, opening coil and trip
circuit.
3. Insulation resistance test for primary insulation.
4. Insulation resistance test on the control circuit.
C Optional Test
1. Measure the contact resistance of primary current path.

SECTION 07 LOW VOLTAGE AIR CIRCUIT BREAKER FIXED TYPE


MOULD CASE CIRCUIT BRAEKER FIXED TYPE (>400A)
A Maintenance
1. All the maintenance to be done without disassembly, except where disassembly
is necessary.
2. Mechanical system: Note the condition of operation mechanism in term of wear,
lubrication, cleanliness and adjustment.
3. Primary current path: Note the condition of the main contacts, connections and
arc interruption system. (the space inside cubicle is requested)
4. Primary insulation system: Note the condition of the main insulation, barriers
5. Cleaning: Clean all primary insulation, the mechanism and all control contacts.
For all main contacts, arcing contacts, the space inside cubicle is requested.
6. Lubrication: Re-lubricate for mechanical system where applicable (no
disassembly requested). Further lubrication of mechanical of system only be
done as needed and get approval from owner.
7. Parts replacement: Replace all defective parts as noted in the contract. Before
proceeding with disassembly, bring condition to the attention of the owner and
get approval.
8. Operation function: Note the operation of charging, on, off, reset.
9. Control system: Note the condition of the control wiring, all coils, charging motor,
all relays, and switches.
B Standard Test
1. Test the electronic trip unit by test kit: Only apply for Merlin Gerin products
equipped with electronic trip unit.
2. Test the electrical operation of charging motor, closing coil, opening coil and trip
circuit.
3. Insulation test for control insulation.
C Optional Test
1. Measure the contact resistance of primary current path if available.

SECTION 08 PROTECTIVE RELAY


A Electro-mechanical protective relays
1. Inspect for broken parts and wire connection tightness.
2. Inspect cover gasket, cover glass, presence of foreign material or moisture,
condition of spiral springs, disc clearance, contacts, and case shorting contacts.
3. Check mechanically for freedom of movements, proper travel and alignment, and
tightness of mounting hardware and tap plugs.
4. Perform secondary injection test for active functions if applicable.
5. If applicable, perform all settings in accordance with owner's/user's provided
settings.
B Electronic protective relays
1. Inspect the appearance, mounting.
2. Clean dust from relays.
3. Perform secondary injection test for active functions if applicable.
4. Perform the I/O test by jumper at terminals as per darwing.
5. If applicable, perform all settings in accordance with owner's/user's provided
settings.

SECTION 09 TRANSFORMER INSTRUMENTS: CTs and VTs


A Maintenance
1. Inspect the physical and mechanical condition of equipments.
2. Inspect the connection of transformers with system requirement.
3. Tighten the primary connections and secondary connections.
4. Inspect all required earthing and shorting contacts
5. Inspect the operation of transformer draw out mechanism and earthing
operation.
B Standard Test
1. Perform insulation resistance test by megger.
2. Ratio test on present ratio.
3. Windings resistance test of instrument transformers as present ratio.
C Optional Test
1. Perform dielectric test.

3. Visual check the fill level.
4. Tighten the power and control connections.
B Standard Test
1. Verify all the charge functions and alarms are operating properly. If product is
non Schneider, provision of instruction manual is requested.
2. Measure each cell voltage and total batteries voltage.

A Maintenance

2. Inspect the busway for physical damage.
3. Check the correct connection in accordance with updated single line diagram.
4. Note the condition of the following and correct if necessary: enclosure, support,
suspension, alignment, grounding.
5. Tighten all connections by torque wrench.
6. Clean the busway by vacuum cleaner.
B Standard test
1. Insulation resistance test on phase to phase and phase to earth by megger.
C Optional test
3. Thermal graphic scan before shutdown for maintenance.
