English Simple Past Tense Irregular Verbs


Se usa el simple past tense (el pasado simple) para indicar una situacin o accin que empez y
termin en el pasado. En ingls el simple past tense comprende el imperfecto y el indefinido,
por lo tanto, hay que traducir segn el sentido de la frase.
Los verbos del simple past tense se dividen en regulares e irregulares.
Forma Regular
Como norma general, para formar el pasado en ingls, se aade ed a un verbo.
work (trabajar)

Ben worked in a

Si el verbo ya termina en e, slo se aade la d.


live (vivir) lived
Los verbos monoslabos que terminan en consonante duplican la consonante final.
rub (frotar) rubbed
Los verbos bislabos que terminan en consonante, con acento en la ltima slaba, duplican la
consonante final.
prefer (preferir) - preferred
Los verbos que terminan en y detrs de una consonante cambian la y por i al aadir la ed.
cry (llorar) - cried

There are 2 groups of task cards. Group 1 consists of subjects and group 2 consists of actions.
Cut out the task cards and place each group on the table. Student A picks one card from each
group of cards and creates a sentence using the simple past tense. Then, Student B takes a
turn.
Rita and Pedro practice this speaking activity.
Rita draws a card from the subject group. It reads: Martha. Then, she draws a card from the
actions group. It reads: go to Miami. Rita says: Martha went to Miami.
Now, it is Pedros turn. He draws a card from the subject group. It reads: Roger. Then, Pedro
draws a card from the actions group. It reads: eat a hotdog. Pedro says: Roger ate a hotdog.
