About this Course

SKANI101x is an introductory course in 3D animation, designed for students from various


academic backgrounds. We will study the basic concepts of animation, using a 3D animation
tool: Blender. This course will cover the basic workflow of the software, and also explain one
of the animation principles: Squash and stretch. You will get a fairly detailed idea of the
contents of this course when you go through the Course Contents document.

The course will enable you to know the basics of Blender, like installation, user interface,
modelling and animation. Since this is a skill development course, there will be substantial
emphasis on the hands-on activities, assignments and projects.

This course is offered in a Self-pace mode. It allows you to register anytime during the
period of June 1st September 15th 2016. The course will end on September 30th 2016. Once
registered, you can go through the content (Week 1 to Week 8), at your own convenience
and speed. You are supposed to submit the assignments (given in the respective week), and
submit them, as per your convenience (on or before September 29th 2016).
The assessment of this course is based on the 3 quizzes (to be uploaded on June 10th 2016).
These would be based on a defined syllabus. The last date for submitting the quizzes would
be September 15th 2016. More details can be found in the Grading policy (separate
document uploaded).

As a participant, you will be required to spend about 3 to 4 hours of your time for the
content available per week. You have to see the videos, and practice the steps, processes,
and skills, imparted in the course. You should participate in the discussion forum, and
interact with fellow participants and instructors.
The success of this course lies in the practice time you spend. Therefore, although it is a light
course, you can make the most of it by focussing on the time you practise..!
