UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN MR. MIGUEL LIM,/ PRESIDENT, ST. PAUL UNIVERSITY
PHILIPPINES ALUMNI ASSOCIATION,// REVEREND SISTERS,/ OUR
COMPETITIVE TEACHERS,// OUR LOVING AND PERSEVERING PARENTS,
FELLOW PAULINIANS, FRIENDS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,/ GOOD
MORNING!//
Today is our graduation day.// Also called a commencement exercise.// We
end one phase of our education to commence to commence or begin a new one.//
This phase has been 6 long years marked not only with hard work and
determination,/ but also fun and friendship.//
Let me continue my talk with this quote:/ What lies behind us and what lies
before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us./ These are
words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, a Great American essayist and poet. Today,/
on our graduation day/ these words have important meaning to us. For just as our
years of elementary education are behind us, years of future learning lie before us.
But more importantly, what lies within us? To answer, much of what is within us
comes from our SPUP education, SPUPs gift of learning. From SPUP we
learned about science, math, literature, social studies, religion, and other subjects.
These are very important tools that we will need not only for building our future, but
also for our nation. But other than these, we also learned the value of hard work,
determination and most importantly, honesty. Honesty, being truthful and
science in everything that we think, say and do. This early in our life, we should
learn that the gift of learning gained from SPUP is our tool to better nation
building. This can only be effective if we live with integrity. Otherwise we build a
nation on poor foundation. At present our nation is already in trouble because those
people who are supposed to be building the nation properly are still resorting to
dishonest means. We as SPUP graduates should be better than this. This is the best
way we can use our SPUP gift of learning as a tool in nation building. And we could
not have reached this point without the help of God, our parents, teachers, and the
SPC sisters.
Our parents, who worked hard to send us to school. Not just an ordinary school.
But St. Paul University Philippines. They did not just work to pay for our
expenses but they also helped us in our assignments and projects. They would
spend what should be their rest time reviewing us for our examinations. Despite
this, they still helped us pursue our education here at SPUP. They firmly believe that
St. Paul University Philippines offers quality Catholic Education in a caring
environment. Our ISO certified and Level 3 PAASCU Accredited status, are
some proofs of quality standard.
To our dear parents, we thank you so much for giving us the chance to
experience life. Thank you for your guidance. Thank you for your care. Thank you
for your words of comfort. And thank you for giving us the best education possible
by bringing us to St. Paul University Philippines...but most of all, thank you for
being You. We will not disappoint you.

Of course, there would be no education without our dear teachers. The people
responsible in filling our brains with knowledge and values. Thank you for
everything. We would not be here in graduation without you.
As we finish one stage of our life we are not afraid to face the future because
you, dear teachers have nurtured us and equipped us with strong Paulinian
Education to cope with the demands and challenges world in the new millennium.
The competencies, values and skills you have instilled in us will empower us to
move on to become responsible and productive citizens of our society. Living with
integrity, living with value of hard work, determination and most
importantly, honesty. May I then ask my fellow graduates to stand and give a
sounding applause to our dear teachers.
To the good sisters of St. Paul, especially Sr. Emelita and Sr. Emily, we thank
you so much for your guidance and leadership. You brought us to a realization that
we have to strive hard in every endeavour we undertake and become more
responsible Paulinians. As we move another step higher, we take the challenge to
give our best in everything we do, so that we can become the best persons we
could ever be.
To our dear classmates and friends, thank you for the good times and the
bad times...thank you for the memories. Thank you for the memories. Thank you,
too for the friendship which made us more comfortable in accomplishing all our
undertakings.
To our Manongs and Manangs, thank you so much for providing us clean and
green environment which is conductive to learning. The sound physical environment
made our stay at SPUP safe enjoyable.
To all those who, in one way or another, have contributed in shaping us to what
we are now, thank you very much.
But above all, to GOD, our Almighty Father, thank you so much for the
bountiful blessings, for our protection, and for the unending love and support, which
led the ways to this days success.
FELLOW GRADUATES, WHERE THE ROAD LEADS US, REMEMBER PAULINIAN
EDUCATION GAVE US A GOOD START IT IS NOW UP TO US TO CONTINUE THE
JOURNEY TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE.
I, THANK YOU!
