INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES (IBM)

PROBLEM STATEMENT
A Study Conducted By Eduadvisor.My Shows 32.6% Of The Fresh Graduate Population Are
Coming Out Of Technical And ICT As Their Chosen Field Of Study. As Malaysia Spears Into
The Digital Economy, How Can We Attract Non ICT Graduates Into ICT/Technical Industry?
METHODOLOGY
We used two methods to collect our data which are survey and interview. Through survey we
able to get 20 respondents whom consist of university students, fresh graduates and
employees. Our survey which we created from google doc are shared through Facebook and
Whatsapp groups.
DATA ANALYSIS

Figure 1 : Age

Based on figure 1, 30% of respondents are aged between 20 to 23 and followed by aged group 24 to
26 and others where both have equal number of respondent which are 25%. Lastly around 20% of our
respondents are in aged between 27 to 30.

Based on Figure 2, majority of our respondents are male in percentage of 60 and the remaining 40%
consists of female.

As we can see in figure 3 , we can conclude that 50% of our respondents are employees, followed by
35% of respondents are university students and 20% are fresh graduates.

Figure 4: Do you think ICT will improve your daily effectiveness and quality?
Based on figure 4, majority 65% of respondent said that ICT improve their daily effectiveness and
quality which enables them to have a better life style. 20% of respondent have a natural feeling on this
statement and 15% of respondent agreed.

Figure 5 : How many ICT/Technical industry do you know ?


Based on figure 5, 55% of respondent agreed that they knew more than 8 ICT
industry in Malaysia such as IBM, Sony, Dell and so on. 25% of respondent said
they only knew 1 to 3 ICT industry and followed by 20% of respondent who knew
4 to 7 ICT industry.

As we can see from figure 6, 85% of respondent said that Hardware and software

consultancies which provide services such as supporting and developing strategies in the
application of servers, networks and computers are related service to ICT industry followed
by 80% respondent said that Database activities include data management, data security and
data retrieval services and

Internet-based business application services include e-mail

services, Application Service Provider (ASP) services, hosting services are also related
service to ICT industry. Besides that 50% of respondent agreed that Content development
services include producing educational CD-Rom, providing on-line news and information,
and gaming software related to ICT industry.

Based on scale 1-5, 45% of respondent said that working in ICT industry
give a neutral feeling for them followed by 30% of respondents said its
very stressful working in ICT industry and 20% of respondent said that
stressful working in ICT industry.

Based on figure 8, 100% of respondents said that Malaysia Has The
Strengths And Capabilities In The Following Sectors Such As Vertical ICT,
Creative Multimedia & Content, ICT Hardware And Telecommunication.

Figure 9: What Traits Attract You The Most In Ensuring You To Join In ICT/ Technical
Industry?
55% of respondent said that high salary is the main trait which attract the most in ensuring
them to join in ICT industry as we see in Figure 9. Secondly , 50% of them said that proper
training motivates them to join ICT industry followed by 40% of respondent said that good
working environment attract them to join in ICT industry.
