MP3 players were at the beginning not much more than a memory device with a playback function.
The successor of the first and second generation are, however, at least in part, quite good
developments. For some, however, and oddly enough the most prestigious and most expensive
brand, there are significant shortcomings. Apparently has not yet spread to all vendors that the
customer not only the "hype" but the quality lies at the heart. - But it´s to say, that the players were
only tested for the exclusive use for literary listening (audio book). For pure music enjoyment, the
tested MP3 players are surely good - they were indeed designed to yell music in the ears.
As a medium for the consumption of literary readings, the MP3 player needs special functions to
transform these "Music Player" in a personal reader. Firstly and most importantly: an individually
adjustable equalizer! Most devices do have preset equalizer (Normal, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Hip Hop,
Classical) - usually is "classic" the best setting for voice recordings - on board, but do not produce
exceptional sound. Well, here is a very urgent sales recommendation for an individually adjustable
equalizer!
For the right setting (EQ), we must break down the spectrum of the frequency band and explain. The
frequency band is roughly divided into sub-bass, bass, lower middle, middle, upper middle, treble
and upper trebles. So technically speaking, and spectrally split the "subbass-area" from 0 to 25 Hertz,
the "middle" from 350 hertz to 2 kilohertz, to the "higher trebles" 12 to 22 kilohertz.
The subbass area (artifacts, foot steps) does not concern us, because that is processed by the
mastering engineer. From Bass (25 to 120 Hz) to the lower middle (warmth - 120 to 300 Hz), we may
need something more - so raise. The middles are a trouble spot (nasal area - 300 to 800 Hz), here you
should not work. The upper middles are even more interesting, there is the speech clarity (1 to 8
kHz): at 3 kilohertz can be raised, and at 5 kHz something lower, because here hissing, pop and S-
sounds to come. The lower treble (mp3 fresh - 8 to 13 kHz) at about 9 kilohertz slightly raise, which
lifts the MP3 sound. - Finally, it should be emphasized that only one's own ears, set the correct
sound. So everyone must readjust itself the equalizer! I have attached to each player, the best setting
(for me).
In addition, some players are simply too quiet - again only because the too loud rock and pop music.
And this is especially evident that the devices of large corporations, play with too little audio volume.
International music for the radio is mastered so loud that the MP3 player can´t play with high volume
(probably because of the anticipated complaints [hearing loss]).It must be said that the music not
always was so loud. Only over time, the "Audio sausage" getting fatter and fatter, and closer to the
zero level (as loud as possible) brought. ↓ Average RMS-Level
Loud music on the radio just sounds better than it is in reality. Competing mastering engineers must

Hype is the best word that describes this player. I shall be relatively brief ... try to remain tolerant.
The reason: The largest religion should never be attacked sharply.
The most expensive player in the test is only average in all important respects. He doesn´t have a
individually adjustable equalizer; the operability is not good; wearing comfort must also be
purchased; the volume is too moderate; and the price far too high. In addition, Apple is the only
manufacturer that compels its clients to work with iTunes, because without this software the player
does not work - as well as with software!
Regard! The Apple iPod Nano 5 G was tested only for the consumption of audio books. When you
only listen music or watch videos - for this he is realy a good drug.

The Cowon iAudio 7 is the first MP3 player with adjustable equalizer in the test, with which the
different frequency ranges can be set. Thus, any desired sound can be simulated. Its battery has an
excellent run for two days, and the volume is very high. As a drawback, only the easy of use is open
to criticism. The slightly too big, too unwieldy player is equipped with touch sensor keys, and
therefore operate only with keylock, but by indentations in the panel it is better to operate, than the

Conclusion
The GoGear is a very good audiobook player. Due to its special design, the setting is unfortunately a
little getting used to. The display is also the input field.The entire display is a swing, which their
orders in four directions (N, E, S, W) passes - much getting used to. With the compulsory Keyguard
slider on the side it can be operated without any problems; commendable is, the volume control is
not locked. Audio books have to be heard on the folder-side, as it is arranged on the music-side just
by random.
Absolutely positive side are the sound, the volume, the battery and the individually adjustable
EQ.The almost identical Vibe is designed according to conventional standards, and therefore more
likely to recommend.

The compact Vibe is very high in my personal list of favorite audio book players. He has a great sound
and high volume.The individually adjustable EQ is very good and finely. The operation is as it should
be - easy to make the right settings, and then activate the key lock; commendable is, the volume
control is not locked . - Problems arise only if the player is not properly served: Audio books have to
be heard on the folder-side, as it is arranged on the music-side just by random.
It's always a pleasure to work with this device.

The Multimedia Player from Samsung gather light and shade in equal parts. The equalizer and the
volume is laudable, and the complex menu system and the hard-to-use touch panel keys are
inadequate. Without key lock, is the player not to operate. The correct setting of the equalizer is very
difficult; for an ordinary consumer does not really be expected - for us, but no problem. The battery
holds for the pure MP3 listening (at the diligent use as multimediaplayer, he will likely keep only 10

Sonys Walkman NWZ is in the category of multimedia players, together with the Sansa Fuze, the
most sophisticated and best device. Although I with overloaded technical devices do not like to work,
it creates the NWZ with its excellent sound, with a very good attechment and good battery
performance, I always enjoy working with him. The loudness-volume sounds a little bit too slight, but
this can be compensated with loud headphones (AKG 316 / C Cresyn 220). Ordinary buttons in
various sizes and with notches provide a good intuitive operation.The unnecessary brand plug
connection, I purposely overlooked, since the outstanding features of the Sony NWZ outshine the

The cheapest multimedia player in the test, surprise and immediately convincing. He has a very good

Surprisingly, comes the most expensive device, as a compact reader, not be eligible to work with it.
The smallest specimen of this well-known brand (shuffle) has no display, and the tested Nano G. 5 is
a multimedia player (audio, radio, video), which in turn is very difficult to operate - and the sound ...!
- But there are also very suitable MP3 player, which I will recommend three. Multiplayer cut in the
test even very well, will from me not recommended because of its greater dimension (comfort) and
the higher price - in principle can be worked very well with them.
MP3-Player
The Sansa Clip is nearly world-class in all important aspects. The two devices Philips Go Gear and
Vibe, are technically almost identical design, and very good at work. The Cowon iAudio 7 is not quite
as compact, but his sound is excellent through his excellent adjustable equalizer.
Multimedia-Player
Sansa Fuze, Sony NWZ and the T.sonic 850 are to be praised in equal measure. Will they used to
listen only MP3-musik, so their akkus are sufficient. The first two, are equipped with brand
connection plugs – very archaic.
My conclusion is therefore, to purchase all three highly recommend devices and changed regularly.
The best MP3-player costs together, about so much as an iPod Nano! For two hundred euros you get

This is a very difficult category. Exclusive loud audio-sound to accommodate such a small space is not

In-Ear Headphones are classified according to technology and design into two types: open and
closed; with earhook or without. One of the two species is for the protracted listen of audio books,
less suitable.
Closed headphones must be literally stuck in the ear. They are supplied in different ear sizes and
must adapted (does not fit for all ear sizes) to the user's ear, pressed into the ear. The sound quality
can be quite good, but this is not more useful if they hurt after a short time. In addition, they sealed
the ear so extreme that the outside world (not recommended for car drivers and athletes) to detect
only with great difficulty.
Open headphones are attached only gently on the ear. Thus, they hold less than the closed
headphones, but can in conjunction with ear hooks weared for hours without pain. They seal the

inner world. The sound quality is much better, because the headphones sit here a little further away

simultaneously clever and nice - contact lenses! The others are in my opinion unusable, or only for
positions, if the hands are free.
The market offer a wide choice of devices. As for the above reasons, only devices with earhook
eligible, the selection has been limited by itself. In the wide tests were taken into consideration all
kinds of activities: sports, work, loud environment, et cetera. - Well, there be are good "catchy
tunes"!

Finally AKG brought listeners with the important attributes earhook and open design on the market.
The small compact worms are in the main disciplines considered very good. Only the volume control
is not managed (use a masking tape); they probably thought, to the player from Apple, which in
terms of ease of use are not very good. The most important cut point for headphones, the audio
volume, the AKG 316 is the best off; an MP3 player can perhaps forgive if he has no decent audio
volume - not the headphones!
The best sound and a wearing comfort, plus a good price. Quite clear that the "AKG ear-worms" are

The Cresyn C 220EK I really liked it. Their sound is appropriate and the volume is very high. The
wearing comfort is with other equipment, at the best. When I'm listening while running, I take the
listeners of Cresyn that sit a little bit better than the AKG 316.
A real surprise for a brand of which I've heard yet.

The Philips 4808 sit safely on the ear and have a good sound. The earhooks can divided into a
number of ear sizes. Only the volume could be slightly higher. In a combination with a loud MP3

The Philips SHS 8000 belong to the category of closed headphones. That is, they need to be adjusted
with supplied ear-corks, inserted into the ear. There they remain, however, only under constant,
unpleasant pressure on the ear canal. Unsuitable for long-term listener!

Conclusion
The listeners of the renowned Sennheiser brand might actually are among the best, but
unfortunately, there are in the most important area, the audio volume, swabs. They works
significantly too low. For overloud music not a problem; but for voice (audio book), we need a higher
volume. When properly mastered audio books - so -18 to -20 dB RMS average - they just go; is the
audio volume even quieter - then no more. Moreover, fitting everything: design, audio quality,
comfort, stability.

The closed headphones Sony MDR AS, I have felt a little better. However, just because I have found a
suitable size (rubber-corks) for the ear. Of the three sizes precisely fit the smallest - for my big square

Recommendations – Headphones
It has only been tested earphones, which are equipped with a earhook. Only with them a
comfortable and safe to bear (hear) is guaranteed. Furthermore, only listeners have earned a good
rating, which are engineered after the so-called "open" construction.
↑ Periodic Oscillation
The AKG K 316 are my personal favorite. He have the best sound and delivers the highest volume
level. Cresyn´s C 220 EK also resound with very good sound and high volume, and in addition they sit
slightly better than the AKG K 316, which makes them suitable for sports activities.
Again, I suggest you to buy all recommended devices. Around fifty euro is not so much money for a
few pairs of headphones - it should also be borne that with daily use every now and again one or the
other device, will die.

Critique
The test has thus shown that the large well-known brands, their billion budget rather stuck in the
advertising, as in a sustainable and thus customer-oriented product. And manufacturers, the will
invest their budget into the product, are often better. This only reinforced my dislike of the great,

As a perfect example, we take a global player from my homeland. This brilliant market strategist has

Despite all the grumbling can from almost all MP3 players, a good audio book reader to be made. As

Headphone
The ear longs for a specific type of headphones: after the so-called "open construction" class of
sound generators. For the spreading of good sound, it is necessary that we need some air (space) for
the audio waves. The other type can be safely omitted. Closed headphones can not convince me, and
never in any way. Headphones should never be perceived as disturbing. - The remaining "open
construction" is above all a safe stop on the ear, to give. Therefore we need a earhook. Because, the
"open headphones" are not inserted into the ear canal, only gently clamped. That they not fall down.
On the attached headphones I can only very briefly write. Of all tested players, I could not test a
single headphone, since all was delivered in the "open construction", but without the earhook. Why
should the producers also supply a good pair of headphone?
