7 Day Bible Study:

7 Gifts of The Holy Spirit

By: Kara Church

Introduction:
God has blessed each and every one of us with dierent gifts to
share with others. Each person uses their gifts to contribute to the
Church and help one another. Our gifts can be used in our
everyday life. However, they have to be used wisely and in the
right way. God gave us certain gifts to encourage and support
each other, but not to be better than some one else. God made us
all equal and wants us to use our gifts to change the world, live
the call, and build the kingdom. With this bible study, it will help
teenagers discover their gifts and know how to use them.

Day 1: Wisdom
Denition: Wisdom is having the understanding of God's
Word and his Commandments. Having wisdom helps
others to live a holy life. It allows us to love the world
properly.
Bible Passage:
"If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all
generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But
ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a
wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the
doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way,
must not expect to receive anything from the Lord." (James
1: 5-8)

Reection:
Wisdom is one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Anyone can obtain the gift of wisdom if they ask God. In
this bible passage from James, it says if you ask God for
wisdom, ask in faith. If you doubt and are not condent in
your faith pray to God and ask for Him to help you. Have
you been in a dicult situation and asked God for help?
What is God's message to you when you are trying to be
wise?
How to Apply it:
Wisdom can help people when they are put in dicult
situations. People who have the gift of wisdom give
direction to those in need. Teens can use the gift of
wisdom by helping a friend who needs support or
someone to talk to. They can also pray for a friend and ask
that God grants them the gift of wisdom to help others.

Day 2: Understanding
Denition: Understanding is having a grasp of the truths of
the Catholic teachings. Understanding is knowing that God
has a purpose for all of us and seeing things as God sees
them.
Bible Passage:
"What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has
not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for
those who love him, this God has revealed to us through the
Spirit."(1 Cor 2:9-10)

Reection:
Understanding is the second gift of the Holy Spirit. Understanding helps
us to see what God sees and see the scripture in a new way. In this bible
passage from 1 Corinthians, it says that the point is not to fully
understand what God is saying, just accepting it and trusting him. It is
out of our humane capacity to wrap our minds around everything God
has said to us. He speaks to us through the scripture. If you love him he
will grant you the gift of understanding and accepting. When have you
felt God speak to you through scripture? Have you had a point in your
life when you don't understand God's purpose for your life?
How to Apply it:
Understanding can help people see through God's perspective. People
who are understanding are condent in God's plan for them. They
maximize their vision of the great things God can do. If someone has a
bad day and everything went wrong, people with understanding know
that God put them through this to learn a lesson. They will look back on
this day and think of it in a positive way such as,"Thank you God for this
day. I don't know why things didn't go right but I know there was a
purpose for it."

Day 3: Counsel
Denition: Counsel is accepting God into your heart and
letting him guide your thoughts and actions. It allows us to
judge rightly and speak without fear.
Bible Passage:
"I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my
heart instructs me. I have set the Lord continually before me;
because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; my esh
also will dwell securely."(Psalm 16:7-9)

Reection:
Counsel is the third gift of the Holy Spirit. If we receive God into our
hearts and accept his ways and teachings then we can receive the gift of
counsel. In this bible passage from Psalms, it says that God will instruct
you and guide your thoughts. We start to think as God thinks. Those who
put trust in God will not be disappointed. If we put God rst, everything
else in our lives will fall into place. Do you accept God in your everyday
life? When in your life have you felt God's presence?
How to Apply it:
People who have the gift of counsel enables us to choose right from
wrong. If you pray to God you can acquire counsel. Praying every day is
an action of counseling. Praying and having a personal relationship with
God helps us grow closer to him. Counsel leads people to holiness.
When someone is faced with a decision to choose the right thing they
are guided by God and listen to their conscience.

Day 4: Fortitude
Denition: Fortitude is going against the norms of society
for the love of God. It is sacricing yourself and standing up
for what is right.
Bible Passage:
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens
me."(Philippians 4: 13)

Reection:
Fortitude is the fourth gift of the Holy Spirit. Fortitude gives us strength
when times are hard and shows that God is there to help us. People who
have this gift are strong in their faith. They are the main supporters of
our Church. In this short Bible verse, it reveals so much about the gift of
fortitude. God gives us strength to get through our battles and keep
going through life strong. With God's armor we can conquer anything
and everything. He is all powerful. Has there been a situation in your life
that looked impossible? Have you ever cried out to God in times of need?
How to Apply it:
People who have fortitude are able to get through the toughest battles
of their life with God right by their side. If you look to God in times of
need say if a family member died or if your parents are going through a
divorce just repeat everyday,"I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me. Just this small verse can help a lot. It reminds us that
we can get through these times and that they are only temporary. Often
teenagers lose sight of God and turn to other things when life is
stressful, but if they remember this small verse and believe it, then they
can do anything.

Day 5: Knowledge
Denition: Knowledge is understanding that creation is a
beautiful gift from God and to respect it. Knowledge is
seeing the goodness and beauty of God's love.
Bible Passage:
"God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:12, 18, 21, 25)

Reection:
Knowledge is the fth gift of the Holy Spirit. Knowledge lets us see
creation as God sees and know that it is special. It allows us to see the
beauty of our world including animals and humans especially. In this
short bible verse God reveals that He was happy and satised after each
day. He saw that everything was good. This is how humans should view
our world. We should treat each other with dignity and respect. Have
you ever disrespected nature or even humans? Do you treat everyone as
if they were God's creation?
How to Apply it:
People with knowledge treat everyone fairly and know that everything
even big or small is meant to be respected. If you have knowledge and
you use it everyday someone for instance would stand up for a friend if
they are being bullied or treated wrongly. That friend has knowledge
because they see creation through God's eyes. We need to be treated
and have self dignity. We are not meant to be mean to someone or
disrespected.

Day 6: Piety
Denition: Piety is worshipping God and giving him thanks
and praise. It helps us grow in communion with Him.
Bible Passage:
"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into
fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship, from
which, we cry, Abba! Father!" (Rm 8:14-15)

Reection:
Piety is the sixth gift of the Holy Spirit. It is one of the most important
gifts because piety lets us create a personal relationship with God to
honor and praise him. People with piety create an everlasting friendship
with God. They are lled with grace and joy in their heart. This gift is so
important because the Holy Spirit intervenes in the most perfect form.
It's the special bond that a human shares with God. In what ways do you
worship God? How well do you know God? What is your relationship with
Him like?
How to Apply it:
People with piety spend time with God everyday to strengthen their
relationship. If you have piety you thank God for everything in your life
whether good or bad. You can use piety everyday in just saying a little
prayer or writing down a list of what you are thankful for. These small
acts of adoration can make a big dierence in your life.

Day 7: Fear of the Lord

Denition: Fear of the Lord is having hope in the Lord and
having the desire not to oend Him.
Bible Passage:
"This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved
him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them." (Psalm 34:
6-7).

Reection:
Fear of the Lord is the seventh gift of the Holy Spirit. This is the nal gift.
Fear of the Lord allows us to be aware of God's grace and his mercy. The
Holy Spirit opens our hearts to this gift so that we can receive God with
open arms. With fear of the Lord we are able to be more humble and
obedient to God. In this Bible passage, a man calls out to God. God is
saying that whoever fears Him will be delivered and protected. Do you
have hope in the Lord? Will you receive His unending grace and mercy
today?
How to Apply it:
People with fear of the Lord are strong in their faith. Fear of the Lord
gives them strength and courage. In your everyday life are you ever
tempted to stray away from the right path and choose not to follow
God? This is when fear of the Lord comes into action. There are many
temptations we are faced with, but obeying God and following His
commands is the right thing to do. When you are tempted by peer
pressure always know that God is there for you in many ways.

Conclusion:
Thank you for taking your time this
week to explore the seven gifts of the
Holy Spirit. I hope you learned what it
means to use each of these special
gifts. May God bless you with these
gifts and teach you how to use them
to live the call and build the kingdom.
