Better standard security features. Unlike the 4110 CP, the bizhub PRO 920 does
not require users to purchase an optional data security kit in order to overwrite data
stored on the hard disk drive. In fact, the bizhub PRO 920s standard security includes
both Hard Disk Drive Overwrite and Job Erase, which automatically overwrites the
hard drive after each job is finished. Hard disk overwrite capability is only available
on the 4110 CP as an optional upgrade.
Finishing is optional. Unlike the 4110 CP, which requires users to purchase one of
two finishers at the time they buy their machine, the bizhub PRO 920 does not
Page
require users to pay for finishing options unless they need them. Then, they can
select from a wider range of finishers than are available on the 4110 CP.
Double the copy controls. Users of the bizhub PRO 920 can set up to 1,000 copy
control codes double the number of copy control codes available to users of the
4110 CP.
Triple the job programs. The bizhub PRO 920 lets users save up to 30 job
programs triple the number of job programs available to users of the 4110 CP.
Significantly lower purchase price. The MSRP of the bizhub PRO 920 is only
$39,000 (U.S.), versus an MSRP of $63,050 (U.S.) for the 4110 CP. When similarly
configured to include PCL and PostScript network print capability, network scan
functionality and saddle-stitch finishing unit, the bizhub PRO 920s price is $48,350
(U.S.) more than 41% less than the price of a similarly configured 4110 CP ($68,300
U.S.). (See Chart 1.)
Lower-cost paper upgrades. The bizhub PRO 920s price advantage extends to
popular upgrade options as well. For example, the optional 4,000-sheet, letter-size
LCT has an MSRP of $2,000 (U.S.). The letter-size LCT for the 4110 CP costs more
($2,700 U.S.) and yet has only half the paper capacity.
Faster processing. The bizhub PRO 920s IC-203 embedded print controller runs at
800 MHz. In contrast, the 4110 CPs standard print processor runs slower, at only 750
MHz. In addition, the optional EFI MicroPress upgrades available for the bizhub PRO
920 run at speeds ranging from 3.2 GHz to 3.4 GHz again, significantly faster than
the optional 2.8-GHz EFI Fiery controller that is optional for the 4110 CP. Plus, the
MicroPress upgrades for the bizhub PRO 920 offer additional memory (1- to 2-GB) and
high-capacity hard disk drives (either three 146-GB hard drives, or one 160-GB hard
drive, depending on the MicroPress version selected). The 4110 CPs EFI Fiery
controller option does not include increased RAM or increased hard drive capacity.
Document feeder handles a wider range of paper weights. The bizhub PRO
920s standard RADF handles paper weights from 50 gsm to 200 gsm. In contrast, the
automatic document feeder for the 4110 CP cannot handle paper lighter than 60
gsm. This means bizhub PRO 920 users can feed a much wider range of media types
through the document feeder than users of the 4110 CP.
Wider range of paper weights through the main drawers. The bizhub PRO
920s main paper drawers can handle paper from 50 to 200 gsm. The paper drawers
on the 4110 CP cant handle paper lighter than 60 gsm, which could limit the types of
media that can be used to make copies or prints.
More robust saddle-stitch finishing. The bizhub PRO 920s optional saddle-stitch
finisher can handle up to 20 A3 sheets to create duplexed, saddle-stitched booklets
up to 80 pages long. In contrast, the saddle-stitch option for the 4110 CP handles
only 15 sheets (60-page booklets).
Wider range of finishing options. There are two finishers available for the 4110
CP, and users must select one or the other at the time of purchase. The Staple
Finisher features 100-sheet, three-position stapling as well as hole-punch capability
and a post-sheet inserter. The Booklet Finisher includes the features of the Staple
Finisher but adds the capability to saddle-stitch up to 15 sheets. A folding unit is also
available for the 4110 CP. In contrast, the bizhub PRO 920 lets users select only the
capabilities they need: the Folding Finisher provides 50-sheet stapling, tri-fold

Superior Productivity
When BLI subjected both devices to identical productivity tests, the bizhub PRO 920 proved
more efficient than the 4110 CP in virtually every category tested. Among the bizhub PRO
920s productivity advantages:
Better simplex copy efficiency: In BLI laboratory tests, the bizhub PRO 920 proved
significantly more efficient at copying in simplex, performing at an overall simplex
copy efficiency of 86.4%, versus an overall simplex copy efficiency of only 74.1% on
the 4110 CP. (See Chart 2.)
Better duplex copy efficiency: When copying in duplex, the bizhub PRO 920 again
outperformed the 4110 CP, with an overall 1:2 duplex copy efficiency of 74.5%,
versus an overall 1:2 duplex copy efficiency of only 68.6% on the 4110 CP. (See Chart
3.) In 2:2 duplex mode, the bizhub PRO 920s overall efficiency rate was 80.2%,
versus a 2:2 copy efficiency of only 78.6% on the 4110 CP.
Better booklet copy efficiency: When subjected to identical tests by BLI, the
bizhub PRO 920 output 30 sets of 16-page booklet copies at an overall efficiency rate
of 80.4%, while the 4110 CPs efficiency in the same test was only 62.7%. (See Chart
4.)
Better simplex print efficiency: In print mode, the bizhub PRO 920 output 20 sets
of the 10-page BLI test document with an overall efficiency of 71.2%. In contrast, the
4110 CPs simplex print efficiency rate was only 58.6% in the identical test. (See
Chart 5.)
Better duplex print efficiency: The bizhub PRO 920 also outperformed the 4110
CP in duplex mode, with an overall print efficiency of 67.4% versus a print efficiency
of only 60.0% on the 4110 CP. (See Chart 6.)
Better booklet print efficiency: When printing 30 sets of a 16-page booklet, the
bizhub PRO 920 performed at a tested efficiency of 80.8%. In contrast, the 4110 CPs
booklet print efficiency rate was only 62.5% in identical tests. (See Chart 7.)
Standard tandem copy and print capability. The bizhub PRO 920 comes
standard with tandem copy and print capability, allowing users to link two bizhub
PRO 920 devices together to literally double productivity to a maximum of 184 ppm.
There is no tandem capability available for the 4110 CP, even as an optional upgrade.
Productivity-Enhancing Features
The bizhub PRO 920 offers significant productivity-enhancing advantages over the 4110 CP,
including:
Higher maximum monthly duty cycle. The bizhub PRO 920 offers a robust
maximum monthly duty cycle of up to 750,000 copies 150,000 more copies per
month than the 600,000-copy maximum monthly duty cycle on the 4110 CP.
Less service intervention. The image drum unit on the bizhub PRO 920 lasts
almost twice as long as the image drum on the 4110 CP (1 million impressions,
Page
versus 505,000 impressions). This allows users to run their device almost twice as
long before service is required to replace the image drum.
Faster return from Interrupt mode. After running an Interrupt copy job, the 4110
CP returns to the interrupted job in about one minute after completing the
interrupting job. In contrast, the BLI Field Test Report on the bizhub PRO 920 said,
During testing, the unit returned to non-interrupted copy mode after approximately
45 seconds. Thats 25% faster than the 4110 CP took to return to non-interrupted
copy mode during BLI testing. Additionally, the BLI Field Test on the bizhub PRO 920
noted, The time it takes for a non-interrupt copy or print job to restart is selectable.
Available EFI MicroPress 7.0 option. Advanced users of the bizhub PRO 920 can
add the optional EFI MicroPress 7.0 print controller that enables complex functions
such as exception page programming, late-stage editing, variable data printing and
personalization. With MicroPress 7.0, users can control their entire EFI-driven printer
fleets (both color and monochrome) from the Fiery Command Workstation. Optional
software includes the EFI Impose package, which is a WYSIWYG page imposition
utility that includes unlimited imposition template creation, and the optional
Production Printing Package to simplify complex workflows. EFI MicroPress 7.0 is
available in three configurations, so it can be scaled to handle workflows of any size.
MicroPress Prodigy Workflow Server is suited for single engine configurations;
MicroPress Professional Workflow Server suits entry-level production requirements;
and MicroPress Production Workflow Server is designed to meet the demands of
heavy production print environments, featuring flexible, powerful workflow tools and
complete fault-tolerance, as well as dual Intel Xeon processors, three hard drives with
146 GB capacity, 2 GB of RAM, Hot Swap capability and a Windows 2003 server.
MicroPress is not available for the 4110 CP. In fact, the only Fiery controller available
for that product has a 2.8-GHz print processor that is significantly slower than the
MicroPress options available for the bizhub PRO 920, which offer processing power
ranging from 3.2 to 3.4 GHz.
Available EFI Prodigy and MicroPress Professional. Advanced users can add
the optional MicroPress Prodigy print controller that enables complex functions such
as exception page programming, late-stage editing, variable data printing and
personalization. With MicroPress Professional, users can control their entire EFI-driven
printer fleets (both color and monochrome) from the centralized Print Station
Manager user interface. MicroPress Prodigy Workflow Server is suited for single
engine configurations; MicroPress Professional Workflow Server suits high volume
production requirements, featuring flexible, powerful workflow tools and complete
fault-tolerance.
Print Station Manager (included with the MicroPress Professional solution)
offers an intuitive and easy to operate platform that helps to control the entire print
workflow between application and output device. A wide range of document makeready features (all applied after the RIPping process) like e.g. imposition and
document merge, adding page numbers and viewing the document on a page level
when using the TrueEdit module, help to customize or change print jobs even in the
last minute before printing. A powerful spool application and a software based RIP are
additional standard components that make Prodigy and MicroPress Professional an
unbeatable solution for any professional production environment.

Image Quality
The bizhub PRO 920 combines Konica Minoltas proven technology with new
enhancements to offer the highest quality imaging. The bizhub PRO 920 earned a Five
Star rating for image quality in BLIs Field Test Report, which is the highest possible
image quality rating. Among the reasons the bizhub PRO 920 achieved top marks from
BLI include:
Page
Simitri polymerized toner. This toner, available only for Konica Minolta devices,
employs toner particles that are smaller, smoother and more uniform in size than
toner particles produced by traditional pulverization techniques, resulting in more
even halftones, more accurate text and better grayscales.
Less curl. Image quality is enhanced by the toners lower fusing point because preprinted stocks are less susceptible to fuser damage, less curl is produced and images
are more consistent. This eliminates the need for a de-curler (required on the 4110
CP).
[SIDE BAR]
Unlike with some other units tested in this range, the 4110 CPs Adobe PostScript 3
driver does not offer a point-and-click interface for selecting the paper source.
Only some of the features required to program a typical print job are located on the
main tab of the Adobe PostScript 3 print driver.
The features offered on the Adobe PostScript 3 and PCL 6 print drivers are similar but
the drivers have slightly different layouts.
Users might find some features on the control panel hard to find. For example, the
selection for Folding is the last selection on the Output Format screen.
When a misfeed occurs, graphical and text-based information on the control panel
walks the user through the process of removing the misfed sheets. The user must
complete all of the steps on the screen, including closing the corresponding door,
before the display clears and moves to the next problem area. However, some
sections are numbered the same, so the user may need to check the display for
instructions.
Summing Up
Offering better copy and print efficiency in virtually all modes tested by BLI, as well as
scalable print options, more robust finishing options and a significantly lower purchase
price for similar functionality, the bizhub PRO 920 is an excellent choice for productionintensive environments.
