FISHING SECTOR
The fishing sector in Piura perhaps one of the most profitable to invest, as well as
having many potential products for trade, according to the INEI in 2015 grew by
154.03% over the previous year, landing anchoveta in almost one million tons more
than in 2014, due to the lifting of the ban established by the Ministry of Production.
Moreover, fishing for direct human consumption increased by 26.72% as a result of the
largest catch of species for fresh consumption (81.23%) and canned (52.82%); while it

By analyzing these data, it can be concluded that the opportunity in this sector is to
develop an idea involving investment to add value to the product of fishing. As we know
Piura exported more raw material than finished products.
Investment idea
The giant squid (pota) is the second most fished species, representing 25% of the
national fisheries. In addition to its good adaptability to climatic conditions in Piura
growth in fishing it contributes significantly to GDP growth.
Taking the increased fishing for consumption, canning and the significant volume of
exports of giant squid in recent years, you can see the great appreciation of the product
and the need to export more value added. That is why as investment idea export of
canned squid is presented.
Frozen squid has a good position in the international market, as major export
destinations are China and Spain. The idea of this canned preserves and having as
main export markets to these countries can be profitable.
