I have a track record of securing state dollars for relevant programming such as the William Way Center
in Philadelphia as well as working legislatively as an advocate to address issues that work to undermine
or discriminate against LGBT citizens. Recent examples include helping to kill legislation that would
usher in language defining marriage as that between one man and one woman and pushing the
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Agency (SEPTA) to revise its gender‐specific transportation
passes, which unduly and unnecessarily discriminate. Both are examples of issues to which I responded
when friends and constituents brought these matters to my attention.
In September, 2008 a Keystone Progress statewide poll showed that more than 70% of Pennsylvanians
now support some recognition of same‐sex couples in Pennsylvania. Indicate the issues you would
support to improve the rights of committed same‐sex couples in PA. Check any/all you support.
__x__ hospital visitation as immediate family
__x___ same‐sex parent adoption rights
__x___ domestic partnership benefits
__x___ civil unions
_____ full civil marriage equality (This is a religious consideration and should be left to
individual houses of worship)
Please share any further comments regarding your support of LGBT issues.
I have long operated in a way to protect the civil and human rights of all in Pennsylvania and will
continue to do such so long as I have the opportunity and privilege to serve the public.
