THE NATIVITY

OF

ST JOHN

THE

BAPTIST

Barrenness and Prophesy are two interconnected themes which permeate the Feast
of St John the Baptists Nativity.
His Righteous Mother, St Elizabeths barrenness was used by God to reveal His
infinite Love for His entire Creation. This Divine Love, which is expressed in
Divine Power and Glory, enables the aged Aunt of the Ever Blessed Virgin Mary
to conceive.
The conception and birth of St John the Baptist points to the termination not only of
the barrenness (infertility) of St Zachariah and St Elizabeth but also that of
cosmic and Spiritual barrenness, for sin and Death had rendered Creation
incapable of nurturing and sustaining life, because the domination of Death,
which was traced back to Adams Fall, aborted all life that was destined from all
Eternity to abide in the Bosom of God.
Today we celebrate and bear witness to the unfolding of the Renewal of Creation,
which was affirmed by the healthy birth of St John the Baptist and Forerunner to
Christ (Who would be Born Himself six months later.)
Previously bound by Death and infertility, Gods Beautiful Creation began to reflect
Its True Identity and from the barrenness of the aged, childless St Elizabeth
emerged the Holy Forerunner of the One Who is Life Itself.
Celebrating the Nativity of St John is an expression of our profound Gratitude to God
Who has Delivered us from the horrible sterility of Death, which not only robs us
of our biological existence but strives to impair and ultimately smother the
creative powers of our mind and heart.
Consequently, human creativity, now imbued with Hope and Life, is urged on by
Divine Love to transcend its inherent limitations and, finding its highest
expression in True Worship, our human creativity is joined to Eternal Divine Life.
Our humanity and unique energy gradually achieves - through concerted, striving
Ascetic Effort - Blessed Harmony with the Divine Energy and hence the unfolding
of the Eternal Ascent into the Kingdom, which is to come.
As members of the Body of Christ, we are endowed with a Prophetic Calling. We are
to proclaim and to show that the unfruitfulness of Creation has been Renewed
with Life.
In the midst of desolation, God brought St John into the world - the Greatest of all
His Holy Prophets - to prepare the Way of our Lord.
Like St John, we must continue announcing the Prophetic Word that awakens
Creation from the barren slumber of sin.
Like St John, we are Commissioned to lead an anxious, searching humanity to
Repentance whereby we are drawn into the warm, comforting Embrace of the
Divine Life-Giver.
St John the Baptist prepared the first Israel for the Coming of the Messiah and his
call to Repentance and Baptism formed a Faithful Remnant who had for so long
awaited the Coming of the Messiah and who had provided the human
component of the Church the New Israel.
Now we are responsible for continuing that Holy Call to Repentance, which leads to
the Holy Mystery of Baptism of Water and the Holy Spirit a Holy Baptism that
enables all humanity to become One with the Sacred Passover that takes us
from Spiritual Death to Eternal, Spiritual Life in Christ. And this is the Holy
Baptism that compels us to prophesy our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christs
Glorious Second Coming His Reappearance in all His Glory and Majesty and
Might for all Creation to behold and to worship.
The Feast of the Natitivy of St John the Baptist and Forerunner to Christ affirms the
Great Victory of Regenerated and Transfigured Life.

St Paisios the Righteous Elder of Mount Athos

Those who trust in Divine Justice are neither upset when
treated unfairly, nor do they seek justice.
On the contrary, they accept the false accusations as if they
were True, and do not try to convince others that they have
been slandered.
Instead they ask to be forgiven...
