Removal
WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this section, refer to Safety Warnings in Section 100-00. Failure to follow this instruction may result in
serious personal injury.
NOTICE: Use Motorcraft Orange Antifreeze/Coolant. Use the same type of coolant originally used to fill the cooling system. Do not mix coolant types. Mixing coolant
types degrades the coolant corrosion protection and may damage the engine or cooling system.
NOTE: During normal vehicle operation, Motorcraft Orange Antifreeze/Coolant may change color from orange to pink or light red. As long as the engine coolant is clear and
uncontaminated, this color change does not indicate the engine coolant has degraded nor does it require the engine coolant to be drained, the system to be flushed, or the engine
coolant to be replaced.
1.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
2.
Remove the ACL outlet pipe. REFER to Section 303-12, Intake Air System Components - Exploded View.
3.
Release the clamps, disconnect the 5 coolant outlet hoses from the thermostat housing and position them aside.
4.
5.
NOTE: Do not pull the other end of the coolant tube out of the engine block when separating the thermostat housing.
Separate the thermostat housing from the coolant tube and remove the thermostat housing.
Remove and discard the thermostat housing-to-coolant tube O-ring seal and the thermostat housing gasket.
Installation
1.
NOTICE: Use Motorcraft Orange Antifreeze/Coolant. Do not mix coolant types. Mixing coolant types degrades the coolant corrosion protection and may
damage the engine or cooling system.
Install a new thermostat housing-to-coolant inlet pipe O-ring seal and lubricate it with clean engine coolant.
2.
Install a new thermostat housing gasket, the thermostat housing and the 2 bolts.
3.
4.
Connect the 5 coolant hoses to the thermostat housing and position the clamps.
5.
Install the ACL outlet pipe. REFER to Section 303-12, Intake Air System Components - Exploded View.
6.
Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
