SECURE-24 TECHNOLOGY GOALS

Simplicity
Simplify the environment with new technology.

Scalability
Technology should be able to grow and scale as the company grows.

AutomaBon
Technology should have the ability to be an automated and repeatable process.

Overall reducBon of cost

Technology should drive down the overall cost.

SoluBon driven by customer requirements and demands

This is the reason for looking at the technology.

PCA OVERVIEW
PCA stands for Private Cloud Appliance. Previously known as the VCA (Virtual
Compute Appliance)
Oracle converged infrastructure including Network, Storage, Servers and
VirtualizaBon
Fully integrated with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c
EecBvely this gives you a complete cloud compuBng environment that one
can simply roll into a datacenter, plug in, and begin using.

PCA PHYSICAL VIEW

WHY WE SELECTED PRIVATE CLOUD APPLIANCE

Fast Power-on to ProducBon - AutomaBon
2 hours vs. 1 month on legacy infrastructure
Mixed workloads - Scalable
Oracle DB, Oracle ApplicaBons, Microso_, Custom apps
More ecient Licensing ReducBon of cost
Trusted ParBBons Licensing
Rapid ApplicaBon Deployment Simplicity and automaBon
Pre-built Oracle VM templates
Simplied Support - Simplicity
One Hand to Shake (One Throat to Choke)
Lower AcquisiBon and Deployment Costs
Impressive performance Customer requirements

PCA BUSINESS CASE

Fully supported and cerBed stack applicaBon through infrastructure.
Hardware and So_ware designed to work together.
Support for Oracle Trusted parBBoning. Run processor based licensing in a
private cloud with condence.
Oracle templates available through edelivery for enterprise applicaBons.
Cloud automaBon integraBon through OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c
Cloud Control)

CERTIFIED
BY ORACLE

PCA TRUSTED PARTITION LICENSE

On VCE Block type devices (Cisco, VMware, etc.)
Pay License Fee for system capacity at .5 core factor

Using Oracle PCA

Customers are licensed for what they use only at .25 core factor

Example :
Database uses 16 vCPU
VMware Cluster ( 8 servers x 16 cores per server) - 128 CPU Cores
Cost = 64 Oracle Enterprise EdiBon Processor License
PCA
Cost = 4 Oracle Enterprise EdiBon Processor License

PCA OPERATING SYSTEM FLEXIBILITY

Many enterprise applicaBons are being developed and designed for
Oracle Linux.
Even with the explosion of Oracle Linux support, Microso_ and Solaris
are sBll very relevant for many enterprise applicaBon ecosystems
PCA allows for automaBon and support for Linux, Microso_ and Solaris
on a single converged infrastructure.
AutomaBon friendly. APIs rule the world.

WHY ORACLE LINUX?

Oracle Linux is fully supported and included with the PCA
environment
AutomaBon integraBon with Oracle VM
UEK kernel. This is a kernel created by Oracle that is patched and
tuned for Oracle applicaBons
The UEK kernel also enables capabiliBes such as Ksplice. Ksplice
allows for patching of the Linux kernel with zero downBme.

PCA ORACLE LINUX AUTOMATION

Create Oracle Linux templates that are generic, but can take on the idenBty of a
web, app, or DB machine through automaBon integraBon
UBlize Oracle VM messages sending to ovmd running on the Linux virtual
machines to allow for rapid deployment.
hkps://blogs.oracle.com/wim/entry/using_oracle_vm_messages_to
OVM messages allow for communicaBon to the guest OS via a bi-direcBonal
communicaBon channel. This allows for things like IP, hostname, network, and
for Secure-24 puppet cert name to be sent to a newly deployed template.
