Product Concept
The Pro L4130 / L4160 Latex inkjet printers can print on various substrates such as non-coated paper with
environmentally friendly aqueous ink, whose outdoor durability is equivalent to solvent ink. The Pro L4130 /
L4160 support the worlds first white latex ink, achieving printability on clear substrates with vibrant color. The
Pro L4130 / L4160 have been used for a wide range of applications for both indoor and outdoor use.
The new latex ink achieves an even more vivid, higher image quality by improving glossiness and increasing
the density of black ink. In addition, Six-color Process Printing becomes available by adding Orange and Green
inks to the standard 4-color setup (CMYK), thus delivering higher color reproduction and a wider color gamut.

Wider color gamut is achieved with Six-color Process Printing including Orange & Green
ink
-A wider color gamut which previously could not be achieved with conventional 4-color (CMYK) Process
Printing is attained, allowing effective reproduction of corporate colors such as company logos.
- Brilliant orange and green inks reproduce vibrant pastel colors, which are ideal for colorful posters and
POPs for food industry products.
- Spot color reproduction is improved, which enables production of excellent design package proofs in
cases where designs require spot colors.

High density black ink and improved glossiness deliver rich and contrasting details

- By increasing the density of black ink, sharper, richer details are attained.
- The improved glossiness creates more vivid colors.

White ink which expands the range of applications is supported with the white ink
circulation system
- A white ink layer provides more vivid color results on transparent substrates such as window film and
shatterproof film, which meet a wide variety of needs in the sign graphics industry.

Excellent drying and work-efficiency

- The ink dries fast enough to immediately move on to secondary processes such as laminating and
installing.
- Because drying time is not required, the total work-efficiency is dramatically improved.

M152 / M152
Overview of New Ink Technology
What is latex Ink?
Latex ink is water-based and made from latex polymer and pigment particles. Most inks used for outdoor
display media such as signage and billboard with wide-format printers are solvent inks.
This is because most of those display bind with the vinyl and this binding makes the printed outdoor
display durable to withdraw both rain and storm.
Despite the effectiveness of solvent inks in making more durable outdoor display media without any loss
of quality, it is not actually safe for human body or eco-friendly. For operators in Print room, a wellventilated facility is required with a proper air discharge system in order to use solvent inks.
Otherwise, operators using the wide format printers run the risk of breathing in toxic fumes. Additionally,
solvent inks are not environment-friendly. Those are made from petroleum-based chemicals and have
high levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are harmful to the environment. You do not have
to be strict about enforcing air ventilation requirements when using Latex ink because it does not release
any toxic fumes when it is used. It is low on VOCs, does not have dangerous air pollutants and does not
emit ozone.

Fixing Process by Ink

In many cases, solvent/aqueous ink can be printed only on the coated media, so the expensive media is needed
depending on application. However, latex ink can be printed on uncoated media which does not have ink-receiving
layer and which is low priced. Therefore, the use of the special media is not necessary allowing for handling several
kinds of application.

Target Application Summary
The new Ricoh Aqueous Durable (Latex) Ink is best suited for the signage market, POP and Display applications.
This is because it is fit for both Indoor and outdoor applications. Youll find that the existing eco-solvent ink printers
within the market are suitable for film media, but youll find that the new Latex ink is not only suitable for film media
but is also very suitable for coated papers.

- Pre-heater / Print heater / Post-heater are equipped on the platen. The Pre-heater is used for pre-heating
of the media prior to printing to prevent rapid changes in temperature. The Print-heater improves the

Product Packaging
The Mainframe of the Pro L4130/L4160 is composed of 1 carton box as described below:
The mainframe carton consists of two
main boxes that are banded together
on top of one long pallet.
The best way to move this product
around is in the original carton but
great care is needed when moving
this carton on and off a truck or
around the warehouse locations due
to its large size!

When unbanded you will find that the

smaller top box will contain the stand
but the screws required for assembly
of the stand will be found in the
accessory box located in the larger
main box!

First step in setting up a unit weather

assembling the unit at a customer
location or a local shop will be to
assemble the stand.

Product Support Guide

M152 / M152

Due to the size and weight of the printer, it

will require that four people lift the unit from
atop the pallet and then its recommended for
a fifth person be available to guide the unit
over the mounting position of the stand to
assure the safety of the lifters and to assure
the printer is not damaged.
Due to the complexity of scheduling 4-5
people to be available for the units delivery it
is recommended that the printer be placed
on and secured to the stand at a shop /
warehouse location. With the printer on the
stand it can now be delivered to the
customer but shipping / delivery personnel
must assure that proper spacers are installed
between the uprights of the stand and the
side wall of the truck to assure safe travels
for the unit. To wrap straps across the body
will very likely result in damage to the
printers body!

Installation Space

Prior to installation
Because of the size of the Pro L4130/L4160, arrangements should be made to visit the customer site
prior to any machine installation takes place. During this visit the following items have to be reviewed
for proper scheduling of delivery staff and equipment:

Confirm if a load dock is available at the site or if this would be a street level delivery
Confirm 36 inch doors are available throughout the delivery path within the building
Confirm any hallways and stairways are conducive to maneuvering the unit to its final destination
If elevators are necessary for delivery we need dimensions of the elevator
Angles of stairways and size of landing spaces when an elevator cannot be used

IMPORTANT: Always assure these steps above are followed prior to shipping any equipment!

User-friendly operation

Basic setting items are indicated

by icons, enabling intended
operations to be performed
intuitively without hesitation.

When clicking on the targeted icon,

the screen will be changed in the
same window. In addition, layout
settings can be re-used at any time
by implementing "Register as
Favorite"

When printing, you can visually

confirm the job progress on the
main screen.

Three ink layers in one pass print function

A three-layer print of color, white and color can be performed at one time. The underlay printing of a base layer of white
ink in order to reproduce the natural beauty of colors printed on transparent media. Window graphics can be printed with
high precision and no multi-pass color registration shift.

Layout function as desired

There is no longer a layout constraint in the size adjustment or a copy function for the imposition of several jobs. Three ink
layers or copied images are freely laid out if print conditions are same. This function reduces the media waste by efficient
layout.

Multi-profile, simultaneous printing function

Several profiles that match conditions can be simultaneously printed. This is effective for test output when the profile for a
target image quality or color requires multiple "profile" test prints. You can select the best profile after actually
investigating such an output.
