My University Writing Experience
Over the course of my UWRT experience thus far, I have come to acknowledge a few
things about myself, my writing, and how I plan to continue in the course. I have read over my
goals that I placed for myself in the beginning of the course, and there is evidence that I am
actively working towards them. My goals were to start and finish the course strong with my
writing and to learn to write with a common thread of with persistence and creativity in all of my
writings. I can say that I am actively working towards my goals and that they have stayed the
same to this point. From seeing the feedback I received on my Literacy Vignette, I can see that I
have started my writings out strong, and have been using the creativity that I have been striving
for.
Of the few major writings that we have already accomplished, I am specifically
impressed with my literacy vignettes. These came together very nicely, and I was able to harness
the aspects that I love about my own writing. I also feel that the required readings that are
assigned to us has allowed me to really dig deep into each article and ask pressing questions
about the topic. Reading back into my commonplace book, these required readings have sparked
my learning and helped me become more informed about different subjects. I feel as though I
have done well with these questions and the in-class discussions. With our group assignments, I
find myself contributing to a good amount of the work in the group. I feel our group works well

together and has good ideas for assignments. I would like to continue to work in groups for my
research, and I hope it is as beneficial as it has been so far.
In the beginning of this class, I was nervous that it would be difficult for me to get back
into the swing of writing regularly because during my semester at CPCC, I was not asked to
write a single paper, which actually disheartened me. Since then, I have realized that I had
nothing to be worried about. Even though I definitely have felt challenged, I am not in over my
head, and all of the assigned work is certainly doable. I have definitely grown already, and have
become more aware of my own voice and way of writing. I really enjoy the way the course is set
up. In high school, I thrived off of discussions like the ones we conduct in class. I strongly
believe that these are a large part of critical thinking for students, and they have truly helped me
grow into a better writer and learner. One major thing I hope to improve on in this class is my
time management. Ive found that I save many assignments until the last minute. This is largely
because I have done this my whole life, but also because I have been working almost every day
during the week while also going to school. This has made it considerably difficult to find time
to complete my assignments early on, and I have had to push them back until right before the due
date. I hope to find a rhythm to getting assignments done early, as well as take my writing to the
next level when it is time to choose assignments for my final portfolio. I would like to learn my
writing flaws, and ways to improve upon them, and I look forward to the rest of the semester.
