Book of Policies for GTU

Technology Business
Incubator released by
education minister
Ahmedabad: A book of Policies for GTU
Technology Business Incubator (TBI) was
today released by Higher & Technical
education minister Shri Bhupendrasinh
Chudasama at Gandhinagar. Gujarat
Technological University (GTU) is the first
institute of Gujarat, which received Rs. 6
Crore grant to start TBI. The National
Science & Technology Entrepreneurship
Development Board (NSTEDB) functions
under the aegis of Department of Science
& Technology has given the grant to GTU.
Taking inspirations from Start up India,
Government of Gujarat has started Start
up Gujarat, Stand up Gujarat. In this regard
a meeting was held, in which minister of
state Smt. Vasuben Trivedi, Dr. Akshai
Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of GTU, Shri
Hirnamay Mahanta, Hon. Director, GTU
Innovation Council, Rahul Bhagchandani,
Editor-in-Chief, Youth Connect were
present.
GTU will create a pool of mentors
consisting of Incubation managers,
Investor, industry professionals, young
entrepreneurs and senior professors
dealing with entrepreneurial activity to
support incubatee companies where
incubatee companies will have access to
pool of mentors. GTU-TBI will also build up
information and knowledge pool to be
useful generically for start-up companies.
The GTU-TBI will be able to bring Angel
Fund and Venture Fund investors, as the
quality and the number of businesses at
the GTU-TBI become attractive. GTU has
been encouraging its faculty members,
staff, research scholars and students to
convert their technology ideas and

innovation in various disciplines of science

and engineering into commercial ventures
for personal, institutional and social
benefits.
GTU innovation Council (GIC) initiated
Student Start up movement in year 2010
popularly known as student start-up
support system (S4). S4 has been working
to nurture student start-ups in action
research mode and S4 has succeeded in
sensitizing the whole of the GTU
community about entrepreneurship. S4
has
driven
through
various
entrepreneurial
processes
from
ideation workshops, idea fuel workshop,
Entre-weekend,
Start-up
Leadership
Program, social entrepreneurship bootcamps,
mobile
application
bootcamps, start-up analysis and crowdfunding
bootcamp where participants got extremely
delighted after working in the loop of
design thinking and leading upto venture
design and later ending up raising funds for
their start-up ideas.

S4 Co-Creation Centre (S4-C3) is serving

the students needs around the clock, right
from hatching their ideas to take them to
market. S4 programs at GTU Innovation
Council in Ahmedabad fetch nearly 3000
students per quarter and give them
exposure to technology entrepreneurship
2

and help the emerging teams to setup their

student venture. Today S4 is the most
active start-up system out of such systems
at universities, with regular event every
day of the week. S4 also has taken crucial
lead in the nation for advocating suitable
policy interventions at state, university and
college level. It has hosted national
conferences, workshops, symposium and
roundtables to discuss and deliberate on
the need and to develop strategies and
implementation pathways to make it
happen at grassroots level. This is first of its
kind largest intervention to promote
student start-ups in India.
TBIs are promoted to achieve the following
objectives:
Creation of
enterprises

technology

based

new

Creating value added jobs & services

Facilitating transfer of technology
Fostering the entrepreneurial spirit
Speedy commercialisation of R&D output
Specialised services to existing SMEs

Declining ethics in business is

worrisome, inculcate values in
students, says minister
Students & 3 professors from
Germany are taking part in GTU
conference
Ahmedabad: Our business and industries
are becoming more and more selfcentralised. Declining moral ethics and
values are worrisome. Let us take pledge
that we will never abandon ethics in
business and industries. We have to
change the mindset of our people. For this
purpose, we have to teach moral values to
our next generation. We have to inculcate
ethics in students. Smt. Vasuben Trivedi,
Hon. Minister of State Women and Child
Welfare (I/c), Higher and Technical
Education
said
today
in
an
international
conference
at
Gujarat
Technological
University (GTU).
GTU-Post Graduate
Centre for Business
Ethics and CSR is organizing the 5th
International Conference on Impact of
Business Ethics, Governance and CSR on
Society in collaboration with CKSVIM on
February 5-6, 2016 at GTU Chandkheda
Campus, Ahmedabad, India. Around 150
participants including 60 researchers and
other deans, faculties and students are
participating in the conference. 15
students & 3 professors from Germany are
taking part in GTU conference. For each
theme of the conference GTU has received
total 75 Abstract/synopsis out which total
full Paper receive in each theme is 59.
Selected 43 Papers were published in the
SANKALPA: Journal of Management &

Research. Hon. minister released an issue

of the Journal.
She said that Government of Gujarat is the
biggest example of public participation.
Every company has to deposit 2% of profit
as a CSR [Corporate Social Responsibility].
State Government is using the amount in
public service schemes. If our country is
providing us everything, then it is our
responsibility to give back something. Chief
Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel has
announced
Mukhyamantri
Yuva
Swavalamban Yojana. In the scheme the
Government is giving help to students. She
appreciated work of GTU to organise the
conference on ethics & CSR.
Swami Gyan Vatsalji, BAPS Swaminaryan
Mandir, Vadodara also spoke in the
conference as a keynote speaker. He said
that there are three
type of work: (1)
work done by hand,
(2) work done by
head & (3) work
done by heart.
When you do work
by
heart,
it
becomes an art and
it is the ethics.
When dealing with people, decision
making and while working, involve your
heart with your head. That will produce the
right kind of results that actually will be
beneficial to society. Work done with heart
with ethics gives us ultimate satisfaction. If
you miss out business ethics, you can
become zero from hero within seconds.
Even if name of a company is Satyam, you
cannot go for Asatyam practices. You can
land in jail. Even if you are Sahara of
thousands of families, you can become
Besahara in Tihar.
Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of
GTU said on the occasion that India was
7

famous for education worldwide during

Nalanda University. GTU is trying to
develop the best Technological University.
We have to give back to society, as we are
getting everything from society. The
purpose of this conference is to bring
together researchers, young faculties and
practitioners working in multi-disciplinary
fields to discuss and deliberate on
challenges, opportunities and strategies
involved for business enterprise with

MOVING INTO THE GOOGLE

AGE: Watch lessons at home &
do homework in the classroom!
GTU to support flipped class-room, many
colleges shows interest
Ahmedabad:
Gujarat
Technological
University (GTU) is planning to support
faculty members who want to launch in
their class-rooms latest concept of flipped
class-room. After putting the proposal on
GTU website, many colleges have shown
interest to start flipped class-room. Many
faculty members have also shown interest
in this unique concept.
In traditional regular class-rooms, students
learn in the class-room and then doing
homework after reaching home. In flipped
class-rooms, the students will watch video
lectures at home and obtain all the
necessary information, come to classroom, they will do homework in front of
professor. If a student has some problem in
understand the lesson, professor can teach
them immediately.
Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of
GTU said that the methodology of teaching
and assessment have not changed during
the last 158 years. The rest of the world has
moved ahead and made their class-room
study more interesting and meaningful. As
the quantum of knowledge goes on
increasing, we have to adopt the new
methodology. The flipped class-room is
one more step under the Active Learning
and Creating Excitement (ALCE) project,
which is going on since last Four years in
GTU.
Gujarat Technological University under its
initiative, known as Active Learning,
wants to support the Faculty Members,

who may want to experiment with the idea

of Flipped Classroom. The flipped
classroom is a pedagogical model in which
the typical lecture and homework
elements of a course are reversed. Short
video lectures are viewed by students at
home before the class session, while in
class time is devoted to exercises, projects,
or discussions. If a Faculty Member, with
the approval of his/ her Head of
Department and Principal, wants to
conduct the experiment for a particular
subject, that he/ she is teaching, GTU will
provide support in each and every possible
manner.
Flipped Learning is a pedagogical approach
in which direct instruction moves from the
group learning space to the individual
learning space and the resulting group
space is transformed into a dynamic,
interactive learning environment where
the educator guides students as they apply
concepts and engage creatively in the
subject matter. The Four Pillars of F-L-I-P
are: (1) F=Flexible Environment, (2)
L=Learning Culture, (3) I=International
Content, (4) P=Professional Educator.
Under the Active Learning and Creating
Excitement (ALCE) in the laboratories,
workshops and classes of GTU, workshops
for Faculty Members in various subject
areas are organised. Regular lectures on
selected subjects are telecast under its
ACTIVE LEARNING VIDEO LECTURE
COMMUNICATION
(ALVCOM)
series
program. MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSE
(MOOC) movement at GTU already started
since last 4 years. Massive open online
course (MOOC) concept is there,

Youth Power will be main

source of transformation
of India: Governor
Two student conferred PhD: 4300
students receives degrees in GTU
convocation
Ahmedabad: India is passing through
transformation phase. Youth power will be
the main source for the transformation.
The degrees which universities are
providing to students is not only to make a
career, but also to transform self, to
transform the society, to transform the
country. Dynamic, productive & bright
students will definitely transform the
society. Governor of Gujarat and Honble
Chancellor of Gujarat Technological
University (GTU) Shri Om Prakash Kohli
said. He was presiding over the
Convocation ceremony organised by GTU

at Chandkheda campus on Thursday, 28th

January, 2016.
He told students that technology has
brought massive changes in our life. Due to
globalisation we are facing tough
competition. Knowledge revolution and
technology are becoming engine of
growth. GTU is very big university, having
486 affiliated colleges. In this age
Universities have to take steps as a part of
synergy process. Once upon a time we had
universities like Nalanda, Takshashila and

Vikram University, where students from all

over the world were coming to study. Now
time has changed and our students are
preferring to study abroad. We have to
change this trend. Our Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi wants more speedy
transformation. Thats why he is giving
programmes like Make in India, Start up &
innovation.
Honble Shri C.P.Gurnani, Managing
Director & Chief Executive Officer of Tech
Mahindra, who is also Vice Chairman
NASSCOM, was the Chief Guest for the
Convocation Ceremony. He delivered the
Convocation Address on the occasion. He
said that scenario in retail sector is
changing. Similarly every industry will
change as a part of the revolution. This
situation is of VUCA i.e. Volatile, Uncertain,

Complex, Ambiguous. Yet there are some

underline good news. Nobody can imagine
that A.M.Nayak, who started his career as
graduate engineer trainee can reach top
position in a big company, Dhirubhai
Ambani can become the head of the
largest business empire. Shri Gurnani
advised students that please dont stop

11

dreaming. Learn from success stories like

Sanjay Lalbhai, Dilip Sanghvi etc. The
moment we start following dream, you will
more & more successful.
Honble Vice Admiral (Retd) Anurag G
Thapliyal, Director General of Coast Guard
(Retd) was the guest of honour. He told
students that it is very easy to set a goal,
but it is very difficult to achieve it. Colleges
teaches that everything and anything is
possible. Hard work has no substitute. Now
it is our responsibility to give back to the
society. More you give, more you get.
Remain rooted to ground. Dont stop
anything than excellence. Say what you
mean and mean what you say. He gave 5
point formula: A=Ability or skill,
B=Balancing
time,
C=Courage,
D=Dedication, E=Enjoy what you doing.

Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of
GTU said that our society and our way of
life has been transformed by technological
developments over the last two centuries.
Most of the developments have been
triggered by needs of the armed forces.
Thus Internet and wireless technologies,
which have created the mobile revolution,
would not have been possible without the
support from Defence Advanced Research
Projects Agency of USA. During the last two
years, GTU has also been trying to involve
Defence Research & Development
Organization of India as a partner in
research for mutual benefit.

GTU is the only technological university,

which has been awarded an Incubator by
the National Science & Technology
Entrepreneurship Development Board,
Department of Science & Technology,
Government of India. The Department of
Industries, Government of Gujarat has also
recognized GTU as a Nodal Centre for
channelizing the help to the start-ups. GTU
would like to develop the relationship with
Tech Mahindra in all its fields of interest so
that our IT students as well as students in
different fields of engineering can benefit
from the relationship.
This year, 4300 students from various
faculties graduating from various colleges
in Gujarat will be receiving degree
certificates on the occasion. Total number
of students getting degrees will be around
36,000. Total 148 students were awarded
